Add plugs type in Electric Vehicle settings
Add plugs type in Google Maps setting before you start to search for electric charging stations to ensure Google Maps to show compatible chargers for your electric vehicle.
Step 1: Download the Google Maps app from your mobile phone’s app store.
Step 2: Open Google Maps on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device.
Step 3: Tap your profile icon located in the search bar.
Step 4: Select the Settings.
Step 5: Scroll down and select the Electric vehicle settings.
Step 6: Tap on the plus icon to Add plugs.
Step 7: Choose the plug type which compatible for your electric vehicle. These are the conventional Type 2, Tesla points, CCS Combo 1 and Combo 2, CHAdeMO and J1772 which should be covered all electric cars.
You may like to select all of the chargers that will work for your electric vehicle including J1772, CCS and the wall outlet.
If you get a new electric vehicle that uses a different plug type, you can repeat above steps to select correspondence plug again.
Search for Electric Vehicle Charging Services
Step 1: Open Google Maps on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device.
Step 2: Scroll to the far-right side of the categories listed below the search bar.
Step 3: Tap the More option.
Step 4: Scroll down to the Services section and tap on the Electric vehicle charging option.
Step 5: A list of search results with nearby electric vehicle charging stations in your area will show. You can sort it according to Relevance or Distance, Open now, Top rated, and choose plug type. Additionally, the charging speeds and how many charging stations are there will also show.
Step 6: Tap the directions icon to start the navigation to the selected electric vehicle charging station.
If you need to find an electric vehicle charging station while driving, you can add a stop to your existing navigation route.
Step 1: Open Google Maps on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device.
Step 2: Tap Start to begin navigating to your destination.
Step 3: Tap the magnifying glass icon on the right side to do a search.
Step 4: Search for the EV charging stations.
Step 5: EV charging stations will be displayed over the top of your current navigation route.
Step 6: Scroll around your route and select the EV charging station. The EV charging station information will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.
Step 7: Select the Add stop option. The EV charging station will add to the navigation route.
Step 8: If you like to remember your chosen charging station for future reference, click the Save option.
