When you try to start or install LifeCam HD-5000, Lifecam VX-6000, VX-3000, and VX-2000 models, the Lifecam.exe initialization error with message “Setup cannot continue because an unexpected error has occurred” prompt. Follow the below resolution method to fix this error.

Solution 1: Plug LifeCam into USB type 3 slot
- Unplug the camera and plug it into the USB 3.0.
- Let the driver installed on that USB hub, then restart the PC.
- Start the LifeCam application software.
Solution 2: Update Java to the latest version
- Visit Verify Java Version page using browser.
- Click on Agree and Continue button.
- Follow the on-screen prompts, then restart the computer.
- Visit Download Java for Windows page using browser.
- Click on Agree and Start Free Download button.
- Open the downloaded executable file and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation of the latest Java version.
- Restart your PC.
Solution 3: Update LifeCam to the latest firmware
- Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
- Type
appwiz.cpl
and press Enter to open Programs and Features menu. - Scroll down through the list of installed applications and locate the LifeCam HD installation. Right-click on it and choose Uninstall from the context menu.
- Follow the instructions to complete the uninstallation, then restart your PC.
- Visit the Microsoft Accessories Support page using the browser to download firmware, drivers, and software for Microsoft LifeCam cameras. The current list as below:
- LifeCam HD-5000 Firmware Update
- LifeCam HD-5001 Firmware Update
- LifeCam HD-6000 Firmware Update
- LifeCam 3.6 software: Supported on LifeCam HD-5000, HD-5001, and HD-6000 for Notebooks
- LifeCam 3.2 software: Supported on LifeCam VX-1000
- Download the firmware revisions associated with your LifeCam model.
- Double-click the download installation executable to open it and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
- Restart your PC.
Solution 4: Update LifeCam to the latest driver
- Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
- Type
devmgmt.msc
and press Enter to open Device Manager. Click Yes to grant administrative privileges if UAC (User Account Control) prompt. - Scroll through the list of installed devices and expand the drop-down menu associated with Cameras. Right-click on the entry associated with LifeCam and click on Update driver from the context menu.
- Click on the Search automatically for updated driver software.
- If a new driver version is found, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the update.
- Restart your PC.
Solution 5: Update or Uninstall ASUS AI Suite
- Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
- Type
appwiz.cpl
and press Enter to open Programs and Features menu. - Scroll down through the list of installed applications and locate the ASUS AI Suite installation. Right-click on it and choose Uninstall from the context menu.
- Follow the instructions to complete the uninstallation, then restart your PC.
- Visit the ASUS Driver & Tools page, select the appropriate OS and download the latest patched version of ASUS AI Suite.
- Double-click the downloaded installation executable and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
- Restart your PC.
