MC1473153 Microsoft Teams New centralized experience for organizing important resources in chats and channels

Summary

Microsoft Teams is rolling out a unified resource management experience in chats and channels between late September 2026 and mid October 2026. Users will be able to pin resources below headers, organise items into folders, and access them on mobile devices. The older chat and channel panes will be retired, with content transitioning automatically. Administrators should update internal guidance and notify help desks about the interface changes.

Administrator impact: No direct administrator action is required.
End user impact: Users will gain a new way to organise pinned resources and folders directly beneath chat and channel headers while losing the older panes.
Score rationale: This is a feature update that alters the user interface and retires existing panes but requires no administrative configuration.

Microsoft Teams is introducing a centralized resource management experience in chats and channels, allowing users to pin and organize resources below headers and access them on mobile. The “In this chat” and “In this channel” panes will be removed. Rollout starts late September 2026; no admin action needed.

Microsoft Message

We are introducing a more consistent way for users to access and manage important resources in Microsoft Teams chats and channels. Users will be able to pin frequently used resources directly below the chat or channel header, pin multiple messages alongside other resources, and organize them into folders. On Microsoft Teams mobile, users will be able to access shared resources and folders by tapping the chat or channel header. This change will help users stay organized and provide them with a centralized location to quickly find, access, and manage important resources.

As part of this update, the In this chat and In this channel panes will be removed. Existing resources within these panes will be accessible through the new resource management experience.

Rollout schedule

  • Targeted Release (Worldwide): Rollout begins in late September 2026 and is expected to complete by early October 2026.
  • General Availability (Worldwide, GCC, GCC High, and DoD): Rollout begins in early October 2026 and is expected to complete by mid-October 2026.
