Solved: How to fix VCSA 6.7 warning: The Small Footprint CIM Broker Daemon (SFCBD) is running, but no data has been reported. You may need to install a CIM provider for your storage adapter.

Question

I’m running a vCenter Server Appliance VCSA 6.7 and I’ve added four new hosts which are the new servers just received from Dell. I have downloaded ESXi and installed it on an internal thumb drive. After adding 4 new hosts, I saw four hosts showing a yellow triangle with the exclamation mark.

I saw four hosts showing a yellow triangle with the exclamation mark.

When logged into the host, I find the alert under monitor > Storage Sensors.

The Small Footprint CIM Broker Daemon (SFCBD) is running, but no data has been reported. You may need to install a CIM provider for your storage adapter.

The Small Footprint CIM Broker Daemon (SFCBD) is running, but no data has been reported. You may need to install a CIM provider for your storage adapter.

There are no datastores connected yet and the OS is running off an internal USB drive plugged into the MB. I can’t clear the alert and was hoping someone could assist me in resolving it.

Answer

You will need to use the OEM ESXi install media from DELL. It will include necessary hardware drivers for their systems. The vanilla version of ESXI from VMware is not correct. Proceed to re-install ESXi using NVMe, SATADOM, SSD, HDD and use the DELL OEM version.

Note: If you intend to upgrade to ESXi 7.0 in the future, USB flash drives and SD cards are NO LONGER SUPPORTED and depreceated.
