Solved: How do I fix the “Google keeps stopping” error on Android?

Problem Symptom: The Google keeps stopping error prompting constantly on the Android phone when performing standard tasks such as Google search, open Play Store, or some other Google related app. Follow the below solution steps to resolve Google keeps stopping error.

Potential Causes

• Overheating.
• Run out of storage space.
• Corrupted cache or configuration data caused Google related app or background service to fail.
• Connectivity issue.
• Outdated app.
• Prominent app being disabled

Pre-check

• Restart the phone.
• Uninstall software, app or update that recently installed.
• Check the Internet connectivity.

Solution 1: Verify Google related app enabled

Step 1: Go to Settings > Apps & notifications.

Step 2: Swipe left until you find the All tab.

Step 3: Scroll down to find the Chrome app and tap on it. If you don’t see it, tap on the See all apps option.

Step 4: Make sure it is not being disabled.

Step 5: Repeat the same steps to check for Google Play services, Google Play Store, and Android Webview or Android System Webview.

Step 6: Restart the phone.

Solution 2: Force stop Google app

Step 1: Go to Settings > Apps & notifications.

Step 2: Swipe left until you find the All tab.

Step 3: Scroll down to find the Google app and tap on it. If you don’t see it, tap on the See all apps option.

Step 4: Tap on the Storage & cache option.

Step 5: Tap on the Force Stop option.

Solution 3: Clear Google app’s cache and data

Step 1: Go to Settings > Apps & notifications.

Step 2: Swipe left until you find the All tab.

Step 3: Scroll down to find the Google app and tap on it. If you don’t see it, tap on the See all apps option.

Step 4: Tap on the Storage & cache option.

Step 5: Tap on the Clear Cache option to delete temporary data.

Step 6: Tap on the Clear Data or Clear Storage option to delete all app data permanently.

Step 7: Tap on the Clear all data button to reset Google.

Reminder: This step will clear all the saved information in the app including saved user’s information in local storage like shared preferences.

Solution 4: Update Google app

Step 1: Open the Google Play Store.

Step 2: Search for the Google.

Step 3: Tap on the Google app to open it.

Step 4: Tap on the Update button.

Solution 5: Update all apps

Step 1: Open the Google Play Store.

Step 2: Tap on your profile picture icon located at the top right corner.

Step 3: Tap on the Manage apps & device option.

Solution 6: Uninstall Google app’s updates

Step 1: Go to Settings > Apps & notifications.

Step 4: Tap on the three-dot icon at the top right corner.

Step 5: Tap on the Uninstall updates option.

Step 6: Open the Google Play Store.

Step 7: Tap on your profile picture icon located at the top right corner.

Step 8: Tap on the Settings option.

Step 9: Tap on the Network preferences option to expand it.

Step 10: Tap on the Auto-update apps option.

Step 11: Select the Don’t auto-update apps option.

Step 12: Tap on the Done.

Solution 7: Disable Google app

Step 1: Go to Settings > Apps & notifications.

Step 2: Swipe left until you find the All tab.

Step 3: Scroll down to find the Google app and tap on it. If you don’t see it, tap on the See all apps option.

Step 4:  Tap on the Disable option.

Step 5: Confirm when asked.

Note: Google app icon will disappear from home screen and app drawer.

Solution 8: Perform erase all data (factory reset)

Warning: Ensure that all data on your phone is backed up.

Step 1: Go to Settings > Reset options.

Step 2: Tap on the Erase all data (factory reset) option.

Step 3: Tap on the Reset Phone option to proceed to erase all data.
