Parental Controls are settings to restrict what your kids see on TV and online. This article outline the steps for how to enable Parental Controls or Family Management function in gaming consoles (Xbox and PlayStation), Operating System (iOS, macOS and Android), Search Engines (Google, Bing, and Yahoo!), Streaming (Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime), and Social media (Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook, and YouTube).

Step 1: Press the Xbox button on the controller to open the menu.
Step 2: Select Settings > All Settings > Account > Family.
Step 3: You can restrict the content by age, access to websites on Microsoft Edge and restrict app purchase and download decisions.

Step 1: Choose Settings > Parental Controls/Family Management > Family Management.
Step 2: Enter and pick a user to set restrictions on.

Step 3: You can set monthly spending limits on other accounts, choose whether or not a user can communicate with other players and view their content and set age rating levels on games.
Step 4: You can disable the use of the PlayStation Virtual Reality headset and Web Browser application.
Step 5: Set a 4 digit passcode to restrict settings edits and prevent unrestricted guest account creation.

Step 1: Click on the Apple logo located at the top left corner of the screen to open the menu and select System Preferences.
Step 2: Click Parental Controls.
Step 3: Click on the padlock icon located at the bottom left corner to unlock the settings.

Step 4: Select a user to edit their restriction settings and enable or disable access to the internet, apps and the iTunes Store.
Step 5: Set time limits by day or bedtime and block apps and services from accessing your child’s data.
Step 6: Copy parental control settings from one user over to other accounts to set restrictions on multiple children.

Step 1: Open Settings and select Users.
Step 2: Click on Add user to create a profile for a child. Click through the Set up new user disclaimer and connect to a Wi-Fi network.
Step 3: Install age-appropriate apps on the new Android home screen and switch back and forth between user profiles.
Step 4: To edit the parental controls on Play Store, open the app and select the main menu.
Step 5: Click Settings and go to Parental Controls.

Step 6: Toggle the Parental Control option on and set content restrictions on apps, games, movies and music.
Step 7: Block apps, movies and games by age rating and choose to restrict music marked explicit by content providers.

Step 1: Open Google search page and click on the Search Settings located at the bottom right corner.
Step 2: Click SafeSearch Filters.
Step 3: Check the box next to Turn on SafeSearch and select Save.
Step 4: Edit the settings on each device with your child’s Google account as settings may vary from device to device.

Step 1: Open Bing and select the Preferences gear located at the upper right corner.
Step 2: Under SafeSearch, toggle the selection from Off to Moderate or Strict filtering then click Save. Moderate filtering will only block adult images and videos from your search results and leave the explicit or adult text. Strict filtering will block explicit images, videos and adult text.

Step 1: Sign in to Yahoo and go to Search Preferences.
Step 2: Choose Strict (No adult content) and select Lock.
Step 3: Click Save.

Step 1: Sign in to Netflix account via a web browser and access the Account page.
Step 2: Choose Settings > Parental controls.
Step 3: Enter your Netflix account password and click Continue.
Step 4: Enter a four-digit PIN code that will serve as your password to these settings.
Step 5: Now you can set content restrictions based on the assigned maturity level of the content or specific content that you’ve already identified as inappropriate for your child. If you’re looking to set restrictions at a profile level (soft controls), you can set a maturity level for your child’s streaming profile.

Step 6: Sign in to Netflix account via a web browser and access the Account page.
Step 7: Choose Manage Profiles and select the profile on which you’d like to set restrictions.
Step 8: Select the Allowed TV shows and movies setting and choose a maturity level to restrict content that’s unsuitable for all ages, older kids or teens.

Step 1: Open the Hulu app and select + New Profile under the prompt to select a profile.
Step 2: Name your kids-only profile and toggle Kids mode to On.

Step 1: Setting up your personal PIN.
Step 2: Open the Amazon Prime app and go to Prime Video Settings > Parental Controls.
Step 3: Select categories to restrict from your children and select additional devices to apply the restrictions on.

Step 1: Log in to the Twitter app or website and select the Settings and Privacy option in the main menu.
Step 2: Choose Privacy and safety.

Step 3: You can protect the tweets on the account, which only allows current followers and approved future followers to see the account’s tweets.
Step 4: You can choose whether or not you want to allow this account to be tagged in photos and who can do this.
Step 5: Under Direct Messages, you can disable and enable direct messages to the child’s account.
Step 6: In Discoverability and contacts, unselect all options to restrict users from locating your child’s account by email address or phone number.
Step 7: Unselect the ability to Display media that may contain sensitive content under Safety options.

Step 1: Open the Snapchat app on the child’s phone.
Step 2: Open the profile page and select the gear icon located at the upper lefthand corner.
Step 3: Select who can contact your child’s profile, view their story, see them in the Quick Add function and see their location on Snapchat’s location updates.

Step 4: Choose to enable certain users, like yourself, to be able to access these features to keep an eye on your child’s Snapchat behaviour when you don’t have access to their phone.

Step 1: Open the child’s Facebook profile and select the three lines next to the Notifications located at the bottom right corner.
Step 2: Choose Settings & Privacy.
Step 3: Select Privacy Shortcuts in the main menu.
Step 4: In the Privacy Settings and Tools menu, you can control who sees your child’s posts, who can send friend requests, see their friend lists, locate their account and review the posts and photos they are currently tagged in.

Enable Restricted Mode in YouTube

Step 1: Log in to the child’s YouTube profile and click the profile picture located at the top right corner of the home page.
Step 2: Select Restricted Mode at the bottom of the menu and toggle it to On.
Step 3: YouTube page will reload and will restrict content that’s been deemed by the platform as inappropriate for children.
Step 4: Go to Restricted Mode settings again and choose Lock Restricted Mode on this browser below the toggle to prevent your child from turning off the safety mode.
