Simple Fixes To Stop Annoying Facebook Messenger Notification Spam

Frustrated by Double Facebook Message Alerts? Here’s the Real Solution

My phone kept buzzing. Just Facebook and Messenger both yelling at me for the same message. Lots of people are getting hit with this. Android, iPhone, doesn’t matter. It’s everywhere. I read a post from someone called darkfur93. They said, “Every time I get a message on Messenger, I get a Facebook notification that says ‘Name Here .. Sent you a message’… I am getting two notifications for every message I get.” I felt that. My phone was dinging so much, my dog started barking at it.

Simple Fixes To Stop Annoying Facebook Messenger Notification Spam

It’s not just regular folks. People running business pages are getting it too. Meta Business Suite is joining the party. Now, it’s not just double. Sometimes it’s triple. I started to wonder if my phone was haunted.

What’s Causing This Mess?

It looks like a glitch. Maybe a new update. Maybe a bug. Maybe Facebook just wants attention. Nobody knows for sure. But it’s not just you. It’s not your phone. It’s not your settings. It’s Facebook.

How I Fixed It (Mostly)

I found a trick that worked for me. Here’s what I did:

  1. Open the Facebook app.
  2. Tap the three lines (Menu).
  3. Scroll down. Tap “Settings & Privacy.”
  4. Tap “Settings.”
  5. Find “Notifications.” Tap it.
  6. Keep scrolling. Find “Messaging.”
  7. Turn off the toggle for message notifications.

That’s it. Now, only Messenger tells me when I get a message.

What If You Don’t See the Option?

Some people, especially on iPhones, can’t find the “Messaging” option. It’s like it’s hiding. JVLfilms said, “I don’t have an option for Messaging.” I checked my friend’s phone. Same thing. No “Messaging” in notifications.

Here’s what you can try:

  1. Go to Facebook on a computer. Log in.
  2. Click your profile picture (top right).
  3. Go to “Settings & Privacy.”
  4. Click “Settings.”
  5. Find “Notifications” on the left.
  6. Look for “Messenger” or “Messaging.”
  7. Turn off message notifications there.

Sometimes, the desktop site shows more options than the app.

What If Nothing Works?

If you still get double notifications, you’re not alone. Some people say the fix doesn’t stick. Or the option is just gone.

Here’s what you can do:

  • Report the problem. Open the Facebook app. Go to “Help & Support.” Tap “Report a Problem.” Tell them what’s happening.
  • Ask your friends if they have the same issue. Misery loves company.
  • Wait for Facebook to fix it. Sometimes, that’s all you can do.

I use Facebook and Messenger for work. I can’t miss messages. But I also can’t have my phone buzzing every two seconds. It’s distracting. It’s stressful. It makes me want to throw my phone out the window. But I need my phone. So I need a fix.

Extra Tips

  • Keep your apps updated. Sometimes, updates fix bugs.
  • Restart your phone after changing settings.
  • If you use Meta Business Suite, check its notification settings too.
