How to Change Chrome OS On-Screen Keyboard Layout on Chromebook

Chrome OS offers variety of keyboard layouts for on-screen keyboard (software keyboard or touch keyboard. Here’s the steps for how to change on-screen keyboard layout to another region or language or enable Ctrl and Alt keys appear on the software keyboard.

Step 1: Click on the Clock to open the System Menu.

Step 3: Scroll to the bottom and click Advanced.

Step 4: Scroll down until Language and Input section.

Step 5: Click Input Method to expand it.

Step 6: Click Manage Input Methods.

Step 7: Locate the keyboard you want to use and check the box right to it to install the keyboard settings. For example, if the Ctrl and Alt keys don’t appear on Chromebook’s current on-screen keyboard, click US Extended Keyboard box to enable it.

Step 8: To select the keyboard you want to use from existing keyboard list, tap or click the language input icon to the left of the Space bar.

Step 9: Selected keyboard’s layout will change immediately without restart Chromebook.
