If you like to record screen to demonstrate a process as part of Powerpoint presentation, you can use the built-in Powerpoint Screen Recorder tool to do so. Here’s the steps for how to record screen using Microsoft Powerpoint.

Open Powerpoint Screen Recorder
- Open Powerpoint.
- Go to Insert tab > Screen Recording.
- Powerpoint will minimize and Screen Recording dock will appear at the top of screen.
- Click Select Area button.
- Mouse pointer will turn into a crosshair. Click and drag to select the area of your screen you want to record.
- Click Record button.
- A three second countdown will begin and screen recording will start once it reaches zero.
- When screen recording finish, move cursor back to the top of the screen where the screen recording dock was and then dock will reappear. Click Stop button.
- Screen recording will now appear in Powerpoint slide.
Trim Recording Video
- Right click the video and select Trim button.
- Trim Video window will appear.
- Click and drag the green and red bars to adjust the start and stop time, respectively.
- Once you’ve set this up, click OK.
Set Video Playback Rules
- Right click the video and select Start button.
- Sub menu will appear with two different playback options:
Automatically: Video will automatically play when it appears.
On Click (default): The video will play when you click on it.
Apply Frame Styles
- Right click the video and select Style button.
- Sub menu will appear presenting a large library of frames for video. Hovering over each one will show a live preview of how the frame will look.
- Select the one you like and it will be applied to your video.
Export Screen Recording Video as MP4
- Right click the video and select Save Media as… option.
- Choose the location to store the MP4 file.
- Click Save button.
