Are You Missing a Critical Android Safety Feature for Your Emergency Calls?
Your Android phone can now share live video with emergency services during a call. This new safety tool is part of a recent Google update and can help first responders understand your situation much faster.
When you are in danger, trying to record and send a video takes too long. Waiting can be risky. This feature lets you stream video directly to the operator, showing them what you see in real time.
This function can help rescuers in several important ways:
- It shows them exactly what is happening.
- It allows them to see an injury to provide better medical advice.
- It can help them confirm if you are in immediate danger.
- It may help them find your precise location.
This live video option is included in the November update for Google Play Services (version 25.44). Right now, it may only be available on Google’s Pixel phones, but it could come to other Android devices later. Apple’s iPhones have a similar feature, where rescuers can request access to your camera during an emergency call.
The November Google update also included a few other changes for Android users.
- You can now save and restore your settings for certain automated text messages.
- Parents can now see clearer information before blocking the Gemini app on a child’s device.
- Google Wallet in Brazil no longer supports a specific QR code feature for cards.
- You can now delete apps from your devices using the Google Play Store website, even if you do not have your phone with you.
