Worried About Amazon Using Your Data? How to Stop, Prevent, or Opt Out Amazon for AI Training

If you’re concerned about Amazon using your data to train its AI, you’re not alone. AWS tools, like Amazon Rekognition and Amazon CodeWhisperer, sometimes pull from customer data to improve their functionality. But here’s the good news: you can opt out. Let’s walk through it step by step.

How to Keep Amazon from Using Your Data for AI Training

Set up an “AI Services Opt-Out” policy for your organization. This one policy applies to all AWS AI services, both now and in the future. Once in place, member accounts within your organization won’t be able to modify this setting.

Using the AWS Management Console

  1. Log in to the AWS Organizations console. Make sure you’re logging in with the appropriate permissions: as an IAM user, someone assuming an IAM role, or the organization’s root user.
  2. Go to the AI Services Opt-Out Policies section.
  3. Select “Opt out from all services” to confirm.

That’s it—no need for additional actions. You’re now opted out.

A Few Key Notes

  • This opt-out is comprehensive. It applies across all accounts within your AWS organization.
  • Once applied, it restricts data usage for training across all AWS AI services.

With a few clicks, you’ve taken control over how Amazon uses your data.
