Why Did Microsoft Hide the Copilot AI Warning, and Is This a Dangerous Mistake for My Business?

Microsoft Removed the Copilot AI Disclaimer—Is This a Brilliant Move and How Can I Instantly Customize It for My Team?

Microsoft is making an important change to its Copilot tool for businesses. The small warning message, “AI-generated content may be incorrect,” will soon be hidden by default. The company is making this change based on feedback from users.

Understanding the Change

This update specifically affects the chat feature within the main business application. To avoid confusion, it is helpful to know the new names for these products.

  • The business suite of apps, once called Microsoft 365, is now Microsoft 365 Copilot.
  • The chat tool inside this suite is now named Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat.

The decision to hide the AI warning applies only to Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat.

Why Microsoft is Hiding the Warning

AI tools are powerful, but they can still provide wrong information. The warning existed to remind people of this. Microsoft reported that it received feedback from users about this disclaimer. Some people felt the message was distracting. Others thought it was too small and easy to miss. In response, Microsoft chose to hide the message automatically.

How Businesses Can Keep the Warning

Companies can still choose to display the AI warning. Administrators have a new setting they can use to control this feature.

  • A new policy is available called AI Disclaimer with Heightened Awareness.
  • Turning on this policy brings the warning message back.
  • The new warning is designed to be more noticeable, with bolder text.
  • Admins must also provide a URL to include with the warning, which can link to the company’s internal AI usage guidelines.

This update will begin rolling out in the upcoming weeks. Microsoft plans to complete the rollout for all users by December 2025.
