Exchange Online Problems (Error EX1188132)
The Exchange issue started on November 20 at 2:25 PM Central European Time. Here’s what’s going wrong:
- People can’t open their email boxes through any method—not Outlook on the web, not the desktop app, not their phones
- The problem pops up randomly, not all the time
- Only a small group of users seem affected, but it could hit anyone using Exchange
What caused it? A database indexing problem messed up mailbox connections. Think of it like a library card catalog getting mixed up—people can’t find their books even though the books are still there.
Where things stand now: Microsoft thinks there’s a coding error making the problem stick around. They’re digging deeper to find exactly what’s broken and how to fix it. The next update was scheduled for November 24 at 10:30 PM.
SharePoint is having its own set of troubles starting around the same time. Users are running into problems when they try to:
- Load pages that have custom apps
- Open pages with special web parts
- Access certain SharePoint features
The system shows error messages instead of loading the pages people need.

Most users won’t see these problems. Microsoft says only a small number of people are experiencing issues. But here’s the catch—the problems come and go, so anyone could potentially run into trouble when they try to access their mailbox or SharePoint site.
