Is This Fantastic New Update the Easiest Way to Finally Add Text in the Windows 11 Snipping Tool?
The Snipping Tool in Windows 11 will soon let you add text directly onto your screenshots. This is a basic but important feature that is currently being tested before its release to all users. It makes the tool much more useful for everyday tasks.
Adding and Customizing Text
Using the new function is straightforward.
- A new text button, marked with a “T,” will appear on the toolbar.
- After clicking the “T,” you can draw a box on the screenshot where you want to add words.
- A new toolbar will appear, allowing you to change how your text looks.
You will have several options to format your text. You can select the font style and size. Basic formatting choices like bold, italics, and underline will be available. You can also pick a specific color for the text and even add a colored background to it, similar to using a highlighter pen.
Purpose of the New Feature
This tool is designed for adding quick notes and annotations to images. For example, you can use it to point out specific details in a screenshot or add a simple caption. While you could use it to add a watermark, its main purpose is to help you communicate more clearly through your images without needing another program.
Previously, the Snipping Tool had advanced features like the ability to copy text out of a picture, but it lacked the simple option to add text. This update fixes that oversight.
When to Expect the Feature
This text-adding feature is currently available to participants in the Windows Insider Program, specifically in the Dev Channel builds. This means Microsoft is still testing it for performance and bugs. After this testing phase, it will likely be included in a future update for all Windows 11 users.
