[Solved] How to Fix Microsoft LifeCam Cinema “Setup cannot continue because an unexpected error has occurred”

When you try to start or install LifeCam HD-5000, Lifecam VX-6000, VX-3000, and VX-2000 models, the Lifecam.exe initialization error with message “Setup cannot continue because an unexpected error has occurred” prompt. Follow the below resolution method to fix this error.

Solution 1: Plug LifeCam into USB type 3 slot

Step 1: Unplug the camera and plug it into the USB 3.0.

Step 2: Let the driver installed on that USB hub, then restart the PC.

Step 3: Start the LifeCam application software.

Solution 2: Update Java to the latest version

Step 1: Visit Verify Java Version page using browser.

Step 2: Click on Agree and Continue button.

Step 3: Follow the on-screen prompts, then restart the computer.

Step 4: Visit Download Java for Windows page using browser.

Step 5: Click on Agree and Start Free Download button.

Step 6: Open the downloaded executable file and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation of the latest Java version.

Step 7: Restart your PC.

Solution 3: Update LifeCam to the latest firmware

Step 1: Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.

Step 2: Type appwiz.cpl and press Enter to open Programs and Features menu.

Step 3: Scroll down through the list of installed applications and locate the LifeCam HD installation. Right-click on it and choose Uninstall from the context menu.

Step 4: Follow the instructions to complete the uninstallation, then restart your PC.

Step 5: Visit the Microsoft Accessories Support page using the browser to download firmware, drivers, and software for Microsoft LifeCam cameras. The current list as below:

Step 2: Type devmgmt.msc and press Enter to open Device Manager. Click Yes to grant administrative privileges if UAC (User Account Control) prompt.

Step 3: Scroll through the list of installed devices and expand the drop-down menu associated with Cameras. Right-click on the entry associated with LifeCam and click on Update driver from the context menu.

Step 5: Visit the ASUS Driver & Tools page, select the appropriate OS and download the latest patched version of ASUS AI Suite.

Step 6: Double-click the downloaded installation executable and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
