Problem Symptom
I have two Desktop PCs (PC1 and PC2), PC1 is running Outlook which setup with POP. Now I like to setup Outlook on PC2 with the same POP settings as well. Can I setup Outlook on PC2 with the same email address? and what will happen if I use both PCs for accessing my new emails, that is:
- PC1 and PC2 will be able to download new email.
- Only that PC which is used to refresh the mail box will get the new email.
- Same email address will NOT work on two different PCs.
Follow the below solution steps to configure the same email address with POP setup in Outlook on two desktop PCs.
Solution
Set it up, it’s no problem. Just make sure the checkbox for Leave a copy of messages on the server is checked.
You can check for Remove from server after xx days but make sure to set the max delay you’d expect that PC1 and PC2 will be used apart. If you have a maximum holiday for 2 weeks, where PC1 is used and PC2 not, set the xx days to 3 weeks or so. This way, both will always have the same incoming emails.
If you like the server to keep all emails as a backup, then uncheck the Remove from server after xx days option. Just make sure you monitor the maximum storage of the mailbox.
Do note that if you leave a lot of emails on the server, syncing might be slower. Adding a new user to this mailbox will also mean long first-time sync.
Note: Sent email won’t be synced. It will be available on the computer sending it only.
