If your Mac is experiencing any issue such as not starting up, not displaying video, sleep issues, fan noise issues, keyboard light or battery indicator is not working correctly, resetting System Management Controller (SMC) may resolve it. Follow below steps to reset SMC on MacOS:

Prior SMC Reset
- Force Quit all apps (Option + Command + Escape).
- Restart Mac (Control + Command + Power).
- Force Shut Down Mac (press power button for 10 seconds).
Reset SMC for Mac with removable battery
- Shut down Mac.
- Disconnect the MagSafe adapter if it’s connected.
- Remove the battery.
- Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
- Reinstall the battery and reconnect the MagSafe adapter.
- Press the power button to turn on Mac.
Reset SMC for Mac with non-removable battery
- Shut down Mac.
- Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
- Press the (left side) Shift + Control + Option keys and power button at the same time for 10 seconds.
- Release all the keys at the same time.
- Press power button to turn on the Mac.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
Reset SMC for iMac
- Shut down iMac.
- Unplug the iMac’s power cord.
- Wait for at least 15-20 seconds.
- Attach the iMac’s power cord.
- Wait five seconds, then press power button to turn on iMac.
