MC1528027 Time Zone Changes for Teams Rooms on Android, Teams panels & Teams phones in Canada

Summary

  • Teams Rooms on Android, Teams panels, and Teams phones in affected Canadian regions may display the wrong local time if the device firmware has not yet been updated.
  • The change is driven by permanent daylight saving time updates in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, the Northwest Territories, and parts of northwestern Ontario.
  • Microsoft has updated the Teams Pro Management Portal with new time zone options and is coordinating OEM firmware updates for supported devices.
  • Administrators should update affected devices with OEM firmware as soon as it is available, or temporarily assign a UTC-offset-matching time zone in the Teams Pro Management Portal before the cutoff date.

Microsoft Message

Several provinces and a territory in Canada (Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, the Northwest Territories, and parts of northwestern Ontario) have made daylight savings time permanent.

The Teams Pro Management Portal has been updated to allow configuration of new time zones for each location and we are working closely with device manufacturer partners to enable support for these new Canadian time zones on the devices through firmware updates. Firmware availability will vary by device manufacturer and model, with releases expected to roll out over the next several of weeks.

We recommend checking your OEM’s for device-specific firmware availability.

If a device in your organization has not yet been updated to support this time change, on November 1, 2026 your devices may show the incorrect time but all other functionality is expected to work as intended. We’ve prepared workaround instructions which can be used to ensure the appropriate time is shown on devices until the device is updated to support the local time zone.

Workaround

For devices which do not yet have a matching local time zone, we recommend using a time zone which has the correct UTC offset. Using the Teams Pro Management Portal with a settings template or individual setting, set the below suggested time zone for the device location prior to November 1st to ensure the device shows the correct time.

  • Alberta (UTC -6): UTC-06:00 Saskatchewan
  • Most of British Columbia (UTC -7): UTC-07:00 Arizona
  • Manitoba (UTC -5): UTC-05:00 Bogota, Lima, Quito, Rio Branco
  • The Northwest Territory (UTC -7): UTC-07:00 Arizona
  • Northwestern Ontario (UTC -5): UTC-05:00 Bogota, Lima, Quito, Rio Branco

When this will happen

Global: We will begin rolling out on early November 2026 and expect to complete by late November 2026.

How this will affect your organization

Beginning November 1, 2026, affected Teams Rooms on Android, Teams panels, and Teams phones in Canada may display an incorrect local time if the device has not yet received the required firmware update. All other functionality is expected to work as intended.

What you need to do to prepare

Action required before November 1, 2026: Update affected devices with available OEM firmware. If an update is not yet available, configure the recommended temporary time zone in the Teams Pro Management Portal until the device is updated.
