We’re removing the Agent 365 license requirement for observability data for supported agents built by Microsoft or on Microsoft platforms. This change expands access to usage and activity insights in the Microsoft 365 admin center, helping administrators monitor how agents are used.
This change is limited to observability metrics. It does not remove licensing requirements for other Agent 365 capabilities or for agent activity metrics for agents built on third-party platforms.
Rollout schedule
General Availability (Worldwide): Beginning in late November 2026 and expected to complete by late November 2026
Impact on your organization
Who is affected
Organizations using supported agents built by Microsoft or on Microsoft platforms
Platforms and services
- Microsoft 365 admin center
- Agent 365 observability
What will happen
- An Agent 365 license will no longer be required to view usage and activity metrics for supported agents built by Microsoft or on Microsoft platforms.
- The change applies to both existing and new supported agents.
- In Registry, the affected usage and activity columns are Active users, Total sessions, Exception rate, and Run Time.
- In Agent overview, affected cards and charts include Active users, Active users over time, and Trending agents by active users. These views may already be visible in organizations without an Agent 365 license. Reported values and trends may change temporarily as activity data accumulates during rollout.
- In Agent details > Activity, affected metrics include the Active users, Sessions, Exceptions, and Agent run-time cards, and the Active users over time and Sessions over time charts.
- As the change reaches your organization, some metrics may initially appear lower or show incomplete trends while activity data is collected. This temporary change does not necessarily indicate reduced agent usage.
- Allow up to 30 days after data collection begins for a full 30-day reporting view for each enabled agent or platform. Completing the rollout does not mean every agent will immediately have a full 30-day history.
- Data availability continues to depend on the agent or platform sending activity data and on applicable observability settings.
- Existing licensing and access requirements for third-party agent observability are unchanged.
- Other licensed Agent 365 capabilities, including risk-related features, continue to require the applicable license.
Action required and recommendations
When comparing usage before and after rollout, account for the time required to collect a full reporting window rather than interpreting a lower displayed value alone as a decline in usage.
