Summary
Bulk generation of AI prompt column values for existing Dataverse records will be generally available November 16, 2026. This asynchronous background job consumes AI credits and requires enabling specific environment settings. Users can review and manage jobs in System Jobs, ensuring historical data gains AI-generated insights.

We are introducing bulk generation of prompt column values for existing Dataverse records. Now, you can have AI-generated values across existing data without requiring record updates to trigger execution. This feature will reach general availability on November 16, 2026.
How does this affect me?
When selected, this capability will run asynchronously as a background job and will consume Copilot or AIB credits. Users can monitor and manage the job and view its credit usage in System Jobs.
Two environment settings in will control this feature:
- Allow bulk processing of existing records will be off by default. It must be enabled to run a bulk job.
- Require review before processing imported prompt columns will be on by default. When enabled, an imported job will be paused for review in System Jobs and can be manually started after review. Turn this setting off if jobs should start automatically after import.
What action do I need to take?
To use this, go to Power Platform admin center to enable Allow bulk processing of existing records and ensure sufficient Copilot or AIB credit capacity is available in your environment. Review the Require review before processing imported prompt columns setting to determine whether imported jobs should require review before starting, and make sure to start them promptly after import, if you choose to keep the setting enabled.
For more information about this capability, please visit Prompt columns. For information about licensing and credits, please visit licensing and copilot credits or licensing and AIB credits.
Prompt columns can now generate AI values for records that already exist in your table, not just new or updated ones. Makers can choose to apply a prompt to existing records in bulk, optionally filtered to just the rows they need, so historical data gets the same AI-generated insights as incoming data, without touching each record one at a time.
Rollout Schedule
- General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out on early November 2026 and expect to complete by late November 2026.
- Public Preview (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out on mid October 2026 and expect to complete by early November 2026.
- General Availability (GCC): We will begin rolling out on early November 2026 and expect to complete by late November 2026.
- General Availability (GCC High): We will begin rolling out on early November 2026 and expect to complete by late November 2026.
Impact on Your Organization
Prompt columns can now generate values for records that already exist in your environment, so you no longer end up with empty prompt column values on historical data.
Backfill consumes AI credits and runs asynchronously as a background job during maintenance hours. You can monitor and manage the job, and view the credits it consumed in System Jobs.
Action Required/Recommendations
Two environment settings control this behavior:
- Turn on Allow prompt columns to generate values for existing records to apply a prompt to existing records in an environment. This setting is off by default, so no backfill runs until you enable it. Ensure you have sufficient AI credit capacity in the environment (available under Licensing in Power Platform Admin Center) before you turn this on.
- Require review before processing imported prompt columns holds the backfill job in a paused state when a solution containing prompt columns is imported, so you can review the job before starts. Once your review is complete, start the job from System Jobs. This setting is on by default, turn it off if you’d prefer jobs to start automatically on import.
When a solution import includes prompt columns with backfill jobs, you’ll get a notification (bell icon) letting you know a job needs your attention. Watch for these after a successful import into your target environment.
