MC1476008 Dynamics 365 Field Service Automate optimizations with Scheduling Operations Agent (Preview)

Summary

  • Dynamics 365 Field Service is adding the Scheduling Operations Agent to automate recurring optimization runs.
  • Administrators can create optimization plans that run on a schedule instead of manually starting each run.
  • The feature also allows admins to define and weigh optimization goals, and the agent will apply optimized schedules based on available resources, existing schedules, and unscheduled work.
  • Microsoft states this is an informational notice and no action is required to prepare.

Microsoft is introducing a public preview for the Scheduling Operations Agent in Dynamics 365 Field Service starting late September 2026. This capability lets administrators configure recurring optimization schedules and set custom organizational goals to automatically manage resource allocation. We recommend that service owners review these upcoming automation features to prepare for future preview testing within non production environments.

Administrator impact: No direct administrator action is required.
End user impact: Field service users may experience automated schedule updates once the preview features are configured and evaluated.
Score rationale: This announcement introduces an optional preview feature with no immediate configuration requirements or service disruptions.

Microsoft Message

We are announcing the ability to automatically schedule and run recurring optimizations through the Scheduling Operations Agent in Dynamics 365 Field Service. This feature will reach public preview on September 30, 2026.

How does this affect me?

This feature enables the following capabilities:

  • Configure recurring optimization schedules: Create optimization plans that automatically run on a defined schedule, eliminating the need to manually start each optimization run.
  • Customize optimization goals: Add and weigh optimization objectives to better reflect organizational priorities and desired scheduling outcomes.
  • Automatically apply optimized schedules: The Scheduling Operations Agent evaluates resource availability, existing schedules, and unscheduled requirements, then optimizes and applies schedules based on configured constraints and goals.

What do I need to do to prepare?

This message is for awareness, and no action is required.
