Introduction
We’re providing an update on the rollout of Copilot Chat in Microsoft 365 apps in the EU. This feature brings the power of Copilot Chat to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote, helping users work more efficiently and creatively across their favorite productivity apps.
The rollout of Copilot Chat in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote for users without a Microsoft 365 Copilot license in the EU has been temporarily paused at current rollout levels.
This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 494830
When this will happen
We expect rollout to resume in January 2026.
How this will affect your organization
Only Copilot Chat users who do not have a Microsoft 365 Copilot license are affected. Because the rollout has been paused at current levels, some users may already have access to Copilot Chat in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote, while others may not. Copilot Chat is still available for use in the Microsoft 365 Copilot app (web, desktop, mobile).
Users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license are not impacted and will continue to have access as expected.
What you need to do to prepare
No admin action is required at this time. We will provide an update once the rollout resumes.
