Is Windows 11 26H1 coming to my Intel or AMD PC?

What features are in the Snapdragon X2 Windows update?

Qualcomm has confirmed a tentative shipping window for its next-generation Snapdragon X2-based PCs beginning April 2026. This hardware rollout coincides with the expected release of Windows 11 26H1. Although Microsoft has not publicly stamped a release date, the hardware delivery timeline from Qualcomm strongly indicates that version 26H1 will debut within this Q2 window to support the new silicon.

Understanding the Update Strategy: 26H1 vs. 26H2

It is critical to distinguish between these two updates to manage your deployment expectations.

Windows 11 26H1 (The Hardware Enabler):

  • Target Audience: Exclusively for new Arm64 devices, specifically the Snapdragon X2 lineup (Plus, Elite, and Extreme).
  • Availability: Will not deploy to existing Intel, AMD, or older Arm-based computers.
  • Purpose: This version acts as a “platform baseline” codenamed ‘Bromine.’ It creates a stable foundation for manufacturers to validate devices launching in the first half of the year.

Windows 11 26H2 (The Feature Update):

  • Target Audience: All compatible Windows 11 PCs.
  • Availability: Scheduled for the second half of 2026 (historically October or November).
  • Purpose: This constitutes the annual feature update containing new user-facing tools and UI enhancements.

Technical Necessity of Version 26H1

Microsoft engineered 26H1 to accommodate the architectural demands of modern SoCs (System on Chips). New processors often require specific kernel-level adjustments to handle power states, Windows scheduling, and firmware interactions efficiently.

In November 2025, Microsoft clarified that 26H1 contains “platform changes” rather than consumer features. By isolating these architectural changes in 26H1, Microsoft allows hardware partners to ship devices immediately without disrupting the stability of the broader Windows ecosystem.

Expected User Experience

Testing of build 28000 suggests that 26H1 offers a nearly identical visual experience to the current version. The primary visible addition on Copilot+ PCs is an active “AI Agent” within Settings, designed to automatically adjust system parameters based on your usage patterns.

If you are maintaining existing infrastructure or personal devices, no action is required regarding 26H1. You should focus your planning around the Windows 11 26H2 release later this year, which will bring universal features to your current hardware.
