Is the new Tinted Glass option the simple fix for Apple’s terrible Liquid Glass UI readability?

Are you struggling with iOS 26? Here is the essential guide to improve readability with Apple’s latest update.

Apple has responded to user feedback regarding the Liquid Glass design in its latest beta software. The new updates for iOS 26 and macOS 26 introduce a setting to improve text and icon visibility, addressing a widespread complaint.

The Readability Problem

The Liquid Glass user interface, introduced with iOS 26 and macOS 26, created readability issues for many users. The design features transparent, glass-like elements. While this look is modern, it can make text and icons difficult to see against busy or colorful backgrounds. This transparency caused a poor user experience, as people had to strain their eyes to read content on their devices. Following the public release, more users voiced their concerns about the design’s lack of contrast.

A Practical Solution

The latest beta updates, iOS 26.1 beta 4 and macOS 26.1 beta 4, now include an option to adjust the Liquid Glass effect. This feature allows you to choose between two modes: Clear and Tinted. The Tinted option increases the opacity of user interface elements, making text and icons stand out more clearly. This adjustment offers a middle ground, improving legibility without completely disabling the new design aesthetic. It is a more direct solution than using the “Reduce Transparency” feature in Accessibility settings.

How to Enable Tinted Mode

You can find the new Liquid Glass setting in the beta software for both iOS and macOS.

On iOS: Navigate to Settings, select Display & Brightness, and then tap Liquid Glass.

On macOS: Open System Settings, click on Appearance, and find the Liquid Glass option.

This small change shows that Apple is listening to its users. While some people may have preferred a slider for full control over the transparency level, providing a choice between a clear and tinted mode is a significant step. The Tinted setting enhances visibility and improves the user experience without removing the signature style of the Liquid Glass design. This update may encourage users who were hesitant about the new UI to finally install the latest operating system.
