Did Microsoft’s Awful October Update Break Your Search Bar? Discover the Ultimate Fix for the Windows 11 Glitch.
On October 14, 2025, Microsoft sent out new updates for Windows 11. These updates were meant to improve security. However, some people have had problems after installing them. One update caused display issues on some computers. Another update fixed a separate, older problem with HDR screens.
Display Bug in Windows 11 Version 25H2
After installing the October update KB5066835, some users with Windows 11 version 25H2 noticed a strange display bug. This problem affects how windows and the search bar look on the screen.
- When you type in the Windows search box, the results area appears empty.
 - Even though you cannot see them, the search results are there. The mouse pointer changes to a hand icon when you move it over these invisible results.
 - Clicking on these hidden spots works. The first spot usually opens the program you searched for. Other spots might show internet search results.
 - This display issue can also happen in other windows, not just the search bar.

This problem makes it difficult to use your computer normally. You are essentially clicking on things you cannot see.
HDR Screen Fix for Windows 11 Version 24H2
There is good news for a different problem. For months, some users with Windows 11 version 24H2 have had issues with their HDR monitors not showing colors correctly. This problem started around July 2025.
Microsoft has now fixed this HDR bug. The solution is included in two recent updates:
- The September 2025 preview update (KB5060829)
 - The October 2025 main update (KB5066835)

Microsoft released the fix slowly, so not everyone got it at the same time. If your HDR screen still has problems after updating, you can force the fix to turn on. You can use a program called the Vive tool with the ID 57048226 to enable the solution right away. This has been shown to work.
