Why Is My Screen Freezing? Discover the Essential Fix for This Horrible Windows 11 Bug.
Recent updates for Windows 11 have caused a few problems for some users, from strange screen colors to freezing content. Microsoft is aware of these issues and has started to release fixes. Here is a simple breakdown of the problems and what you can do about them.
Red Tint on Screens
Some people found that their games and videos had an unexpected red color after installing the Windows 11 update from August 2025. This bug changed how colors appeared on the screen, possibly related to how the system handles high-dynamic-range (HDR) content.
The good news is that a fix is ready. It was included in the optional update for October 2025. If you did not install that update, the fix will also be part of the main November 2025 security update, often called Patch Tuesday, which rolls out to everyone.
Screen Content Not Updating
Another issue caused parts of the screen to freeze or not update correctly. This was most noticeable when a full-screen game or application was running in the background. For example, when scrolling on a web page, only some parts of the page would move while the rest remained stuck. Moving the mouse cursor around would sometimes force the rest of the screen to refresh.
This was a problem with Windows 11 itself, not with graphics cards. This issue is also fixed in the October 2025 optional update and will be in the November Patch Tuesday update.
A New Problem with Task Manager
While the October 2025 update fixed the screen issues, it also created a new problem with the Task Manager. When you close the Task Manager window using the ‘X’ button, the program may not actually shut down. Instead, it continues to run in the background.
Having multiple instances of Task Manager running silently can use up your computer’s resources and lead to poor performance. Microsoft has confirmed this problem and a fix is expected in the November 2025 update. Until then, be mindful that closing Task Manager might not work as you expect.
