Is the Annoying Media Creation Tool Crash Finally Fixed for Windows 10 Users?

Struggling to Make a Windows 11 USB? Discover the Effortless Fix for the Media Creation Tool on Windows 10.

If you use Windows 10 and wanted to make an installer for Windows 11, you may have had a problem. The tool from Microsoft used to close by itself. The good news is that Microsoft has fixed this issue. You can now use the Media Creation Tool on your Windows 10 computer to create a Windows 11 installer without it crashing.

Understanding the Media Creation Tool

The Media Creation Tool, or MCT, is a free program from Microsoft. Its job is to help you download the latest version of Windows. You can use it to create a special USB drive that can start a computer to install a fresh copy of Windows 11. You can also use it to save the Windows 11 installation files as an ISO file, which is like a digital copy of an installation DVD.

Once you have the USB drive, you can:

  • Perform a clean installation of Windows 11 on a compatible computer. This erases everything and starts new.
  • Upgrade an existing computer from Windows 10 or an older version of Windows 11. This keeps your files and programs while installing the new version over the old one.

The Previous Problem for Windows 10 Users

When Microsoft released Windows 11 version 25H2, the MCT had a bug. If you tried to run it on a computer with Windows 10 version 22H2, the tool would open and then immediately close. This stopped Windows 10 users from easily creating a bootable USB drive for the newest Windows 11 release. The same issue was also reported for some computers using Arm64 processors.

The Solution is Here

On October 28, 2025, Microsoft updated the Media Creation Tool. This new version solves the problem. The tool no longer crashes when you run it on a Windows 10 system. Microsoft confirmed the fix on its official health status pages for both Windows 10 and Windows 11.

This means you can go to the official Microsoft download page and get the new tool. It will work as expected, guiding you through the steps to create your Windows 11 installation media.
