Is Tandberg Data still manufacturing RDX backup drives in 2026?

Did Tandberg Data survive the Overland-Tandberg insolvency filing?

Tandberg Data Operations Update: Post-Insolvency Status

For IT professionals and systems administrators managing data continuity, the status of Tandberg Data has moved from critical condition to stabilized. While the parent entity faced liquidation in 2025, the core technology and manufacturing capabilities have surfaced under new management.

The 2025 Financial Restructuring

To understand the current supply chain, you must review the collapse of the previous ownership. The US-based parent company, Overland-Tandberg, attempted a strategic pivot in late 2024. They discontinued LTO magnetic tape archiving to focus resources solely on RDX backup systems. This strategy failed to secure the company’s future.

Tandberg Data GmbH filed for insolvency at the Dortmund District Court in November 2024, despite initial reports placing the filing in January 2025. The German subsidiary underwent liquidation shortly after. By February 20, 2025, Overland-Tandberg issued formal correspondence stating that all operations had ceased. They stopped sales immediately and cancelled pending orders.

Current Operational Continuity

Despite the closure of the German and US entities, the Tandberg brand remains active. A new entity, Tandberg Data Norge AS, has acquired the necessary assets to continue operations. This firm is headquartered in Norway and maintains a dedicated manufacturing facility in China.

This acquisition secures the production of the RDX series. Technical verification confirms that the new ownership has resumed the manufacturing of removable disk products. The current product portfolio available to enterprise clients includes:

  • Internal and external RDX docking stations.
  • Removable HDD and SSD media cartridges.
  • Associated storage accessories.

For administrators maintaining legacy backup rotations or air-gapped storage strategies, the hardware supply chain is currently intact. You can procure replacement drives and media through this revitalized Norwegian channel.
