How Do You Remove Reddit’s ‘Recent’ Section in Left Sidebar?

Tired of Reddit’s ‘Recent’ Section? Here’s How to Hide It for Good

Reddit’s design isn’t always user-friendly. One annoying feature is the “Recent” section on the left-hand side. You can collapse it, sure, but anyone can expand it again. Clearing your search history? That won’t help either. So, how do you actually remove it? Let me show you two simple ways to fix this.

How Do You Remove Reddit's 'Recent' Section in Left Sidebar?

Two Methods to Remove the “Recent” Section

You’ve got options:

  1. Using Inspect Element
  2. Using the uBlock Origin Extension

Both work well, but if you think you might want the “Recent” section back later, go with the second method.

Method 1: Inspect Element Tweak

This is a quick fix, but it’s temporary.

  1. Right-click anywhere on Reddit and select Inspect (or press Ctrl+Shift+I).
  2. Go to the Application tab in the developer tools.
  3. On the left, expand Local Storage and click reddit.com.
  4. Find recent-subreddits-store, right-click it, and choose Delete.
  5. Refresh Reddit. The “Recent” section will disappear.

Method 2: Using uBlock Origin Extension

This method is more permanent and easier to reverse later.

  1. Install the uBlock Origin extension for your browser.
  2. Click its icon and select Element Picker Mode (the second icon).
  3. Hover over the “Recent” box, click it, and then hit Create in the bottom-right corner.
  4. Refresh Reddit. The “Recent” section will be gone.

How to Bring Back the “Recent” Section (If Needed)

If you used uBlock Origin and want it back:

  1. Open uBlock Origin and go to Settings.
  2. Delete the specific line of code related to the “Recent” section.
  3. Click Apply Changes and refresh Reddit.

These two methods let you control what shows up on your Reddit sidebar. Whether you’re cleaning up your interface or protecting your privacy, it’s easy to fix this annoyance.
