Is there a way to add the battery number next to the icon in Windows 11?
Precise power management is essential for mobile productivity. While the standard battery icon offers a visual estimate, professional workflows often require granular data. In recent updates to Windows 11 (specifically version 25H2 and later), Microsoft introduced a native feature to display the exact battery percentage directly in the system tray. This eliminates the need to hover over the icon to view remaining power.
Below are the two primary methods to configure this setting: the standard approach via Settings and the advanced method using the Registry Editor.
Method 1: The Standard Approach (Settings App)
For most users, the Settings app offers the most direct configuration path. Ensure your operating system is updated to the latest build before proceeding.
- Access Power Settings: Right-click the battery icon located in the taskbar notification area. Select Power and sleep settings. Alternatively, press the Windows + I to open Settings, then navigate to System > Power & battery.
- Locate the Toggle: Scroll to the “Battery” section within the menu.
- Activate the Indicator: Switch the Battery percentage toggle to On.
The change occurs instantly. The numerical percentage will appear adjacent to the battery icon. To revert this change, simply return to this menu and switch the toggle to Off.
Method 2: The Advanced Approach (Registry Editor)
System administrators or power users may prefer modifying the Windows Registry. This method is useful for scripting or applying settings across multiple machines.
Warning: Modifying the Registry carries risks. Create a system restore point before making changes.
- Open Registry Editor: Press Win + R, type regedit, and hit Enter.
- Navigate to the Key: Use the address bar or sidebar to locate the following path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
- Create or Modify the Value:
- Locate the DWORD value named IsBatteryPercentageEnabled in the right pane.
- If it does not exist, right-click an empty space, select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value, and name it IsBatteryPercentageEnabled.
- Set the Value Data: Double-click IsBatteryPercentageEnabled and enter one of the following digits:
- 1: Enables the battery percentage.
- 0: Disables the battery percentage.
Windows applies these changes immediately upon saving the value; a restart is generally not required.
