Set to come in September 2024, the new iPhone models are rumored to feature larger displays, a new capture button, better thermals, and a faster WiFi chip. The Pro models of the iPhone are more expensive than the regular ones so we expect major new features with the flagship model.
In this article, we’ll discuss some of the changes coming with the new iPhone 16 Pro models.
Table of Contents
New A-Series Chip
The iPhone 16 Pros and Pro Maxes will feature a brand-new A-Series A18 Pro chip, built on a 3nm node, similar to the A17 Pro.
We don’t know the exact name yet, but we expect it to be called A18 Pro. The regular iPhone 16 models will likely feature an A18 Bionic Chip.
The new generation chipset may feature an enhanced Neural Engine that has more cores to allow for better machine learning capabilities and AI performance.
Better Thermal Performance
The new iPhone 16 models are expected to have a new thermal design that combats overheating. Leaks suggest that Apple is working on a thermal system that uses Graphene for better heat dissipation. Graphene has a higher thermal conductivity than copper which is used in current iPhone models.
WiFi 7
Apple analysts believe that iPhone 16 Pro models will get the new WiFi 7 technology which should provide speeds of up to 40 Gigabits per second.
This, along with better thermals and the new rumored Game Mode with iOS 18 will make the new iPhone 18 models great for gamers. With the upgraded WiFi capabilities, we recommend using an internet provider that offers blazing-fast internet without an annual contract.

Size Changes
Multiple sources have suggested that the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will have larger displays compared to previous models. With this increase in display size, the dimensions of the iPhone will also increase.
Here’s a table that shows the sizes of the iPhone models compared to the previous ones:
iPhone 15 Pro | 16 Pro | 15 Pro Max | 16 Pro Max | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Display | 6.1″ | 6.3″ | 6.7″ | 6.9″ |
Height | 146.6 mm | 149.6 mm | 159.9 mm | 163 mm |
Width | 70.6 mm | 71.45 mm | 76.7 mm | 77.58 mm |
Thickness | 8.25 mm | 8.25 mm | 8.25 mm | 8.25 mm |
Weight | 187 grams | 194 grams | 221 grams | 225 grams |
Additional Buttons
The newer iPhone 16 Pro models will likely have the same action, power, and volume buttons as the iPhone 15 Pro, without any new design changes or updates. However, Apple is planning to add a new Capture button to the devices.
The Capture button is located on the right side of the iPhone, under the Power button. This will be located near the 5G mmWave antenna. The mmWave antenna will be moved to the left side, under the volume buttons.
It was previously rumored that the iPhone 16 will feature capacitive buttons. However, this likely won’t be the case. However, the Capture button will feature capacitive capabilities.
You will be able to swipe right and left on the button to change zoom levels. By pressing the button gently, you will be able to focus. With a hard press, you will be able to take a picture or record a video.
Apple plans to bring the capture button to all iPhone 16 models.
The Action button also looks a bit bigger in the CAD models but we don’t know if that’s something Apple sticks with.
Somewhat New Colors
The new iPhone 16 Pro models will have two, somewhat new colors, which include “Titanium Gray” and “Desert Titanium.” Titanium Gray will be similar to the iPhone 6 Space Gray color in 2014. Desert Titanium will be similar to the iPhone 14 Pro Gold option in 2022.
Expect to see the Black and White color options with the iPhone 16 Pro. Blue Titanium won’t be a color of the iPhone 16 Pro as it was a special color for the iPhone 15 Pro.
New iPhone Ultra?
There have been rumors about a newer “Ultra” model of the iPhone that serves as the highest variant. This can either be an entirely new variant or serve as a replacement for the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Currently, there are no new features that might distinguish the newer model from the other iPhone 16 models. Even with early iOS 18 code, there are no signs of an iPhone 16 Ultra so take this news with a pinch of salt.
Wrapping Up
We don’t expect there to be major upgrades with the new iPhone 16 Pro models. However, there the rumored upgrades with future iPhones are something to get excited about.
There are rumors that the newer iPhone models will adopt under-display Face ID and an eventual under-display camera. iPhone 17 is expected to feature a 24-megapixel front camera with better image quality and low-light performance.
Expect to see the newest iPhone models in September 2024.
