Can Windows 11 24H2 Now Handle Gaming Without Crashes?
Your gaming computer might have been stuck in update limbo for months. But good news just dropped. Microsoft has fixed the nasty problem that made Fortnite and other games crash with blue screens on Windows 11 24H2.
Here’s what this means for you and your gaming setup.
The Problem That Frustrated Gamers
For almost a year, Windows 11 24H2 caused major headaches for gamers. When you tried to play certain games, your computer would crash with a blue screen error. The error code was “Memory_Management”. This happened because of a fight between Windows 11 and Easy Anti-Cheat software.
Easy Anti-Cheat protects online games from cheaters. It comes built into popular games like:
- Fortnite
- Apex Legends
- War Thunder
- Dead by Daylight
- ELDEN RING
- Rust
- Squad
- NBA 2K25
The crash mostly hit Intel computers, especially business computers with Intel Alder Lake and vPro chips. But many AMD Ryzen users also had troubles.
The Fix That Finally Works
Microsoft worked with Epic Games for 10 months to solve this mess. The fix came in the July 2025 Windows update called KB5062553.
On July 24, 2025, Microsoft removed the block that stopped people from updating to Windows 11 24H2. Now everyone can upgrade safely.
What You Need To Do Now
If you’ve been waiting to upgrade, here’s your action plan:
Check for Updates
- Go to Windows Settings
- Click System, then Windows Update
- Hit “Check for updates“
- Windows 11 24H2 should show up in the next two days
If You Already Have 24H2
- Try playing your games again
- They should work now without crashes
- If you still have problems, uninstall Easy Anti-Cheat
- Reinstall your game drivers
- Let the game reinstall Easy Anti-Cheat fresh
Before You Update
- Back up your important files
- Make sure your graphics drivers are current
- Update your games to the latest versions
Why This Matters More Than You Think
This fix is important because Windows 11 23H2 support ends on November 11, 2025. After that date, Microsoft stops sending security updates to 23H2 users.
This means you’ll be forced to upgrade to 24H2 anyway. It’s better to do it now on your own terms rather than wait for a forced update that might mess up your work.
The “Pause updates” button doesn’t really work forever. When Windows thinks an update is critical, it installs anyway. This often happens when you restart your computer.
What Changed Under the Hood
The technical problem was tricky. Easy Anti-Cheat works deep inside your computer to catch cheaters. Windows 11 24H2 changed how it handles protected memory areas. Old versions of Easy Anti-Cheat couldn’t adapt to these changes, causing system crashes.
The July update fixed how these two systems talk to each other. Now they work together instead of fighting.
Gaming Performance Should Be Normal
Once you update, your gaming should go back to normal. The fix doesn’t change how games run or look. It just stops the crashes that made gaming impossible.
Microsoft didn’t make a big announcement about this fix. They quietly included it in the regular monthly update. This is probably because they didn’t want to give cheaters information about how the anti-cheat system works.
Your gaming computer can finally upgrade to Windows 11 24H2 without fear. The blue screen crashes are gone. Your games will work normally again. And you’ll have until October 2026 before the next forced upgrade happens.
Don’t wait too long though. Windows 11 23H2 loses security support in November 2025. Upgrade now while you control the timing.
