Tumblr, now part of Automattic (same company behind WordPress), says it’s sharing parts of its public content with AI companies. They’re interested in Tumblr’s massive collection of posts, though they clarify this excludes user emails or private information.
To keep your data private, follow these steps to block third-party access, including AI researchers.
Steps to Prevent Tumblr from Sharing Your Content
- Open the Tumblr app.
- Head to your account settings.
- Find the blog you want to protect.
- Click the gear icon.
- Go to “Visibility.”
- Toggle the “Prevent third-party sharing” option to turn it on.
This blocks Tumblr from sharing your content for research or AI purposes.
Exceptions
Explicit content, deleted blogs, and anything marked as private or password-protected are automatically excluded from sharing.
