Why Can't I See Presentations in Microsoft Teams Web and How Do I Fix This Problem?

What Causes Microsoft Teams Presentation Issues and Which Solutions Actually Work?

I've been helping people fix Microsoft Teams problems for years. When you can't see presentations during important meetings, it feels terrible. You're sitting there while everyone else sees the slides, and you're completely lost. This happens more often than you think.

Let me walk you through the exact steps I use to fix this problem. These methods work for most people who have this issue.

The Real Reason This Happens

Teams stores lots of data on your computer. Sometimes this data gets mixed up. Other times, your browser blocks the presentation from showing up. I've seen this problem hundreds of times, and it's usually one of five things going wrong.

Your login might be wrong too. Teams gets confused when you're signed in with the wrong account. This is super common in big companies where people have multiple accounts.

Method 1: Clean Out Teams Storage Files

This fix works about 70% of the time. Teams keeps files on your computer that help it run faster. But these files can break and cause problems.

Here's what you do:

  1. Close Teams completely - don't just minimize it
  2. Look at your taskbar at the bottom of your screen
  3. Find the Teams icon and right-click it
  4. Choose "Quit Teams" from the menu
  5. Press Windows + R to open the Run box
  6. Copy and paste this exact path: %LocalAppData%\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams
  7. Hit Enter and wait for the folder to open
  8. Select everything in that folder
  9. Delete all the files you see there
  10. Close the folder and restart Teams

This clears out all the broken files. Teams will make new ones when it starts up again. Most people see their presentations working right away after this.

Method 2: Check Your Login Details

Wrong login credentials cause more problems than people realize. I see this all the time with people who work at big companies.

Follow these steps:

  1. Open Teams and look at the top right corner
  2. Do you see your correct profile picture?
  3. If not, click on your profile picture
  4. Choose "Sign out" from the dropdown menu
  5. Wait for Teams to log you out completely
  6. Sign back in with your work email and password
  7. Try viewing the presentation again

Make sure you're using your work account, not your personal Microsoft account. This trips up lots of people.

Method 3: Clear Your Browser's Stored Data

When you use Teams in a web browser, old data can block presentations from loading. This is especially true if you haven't cleared your browser in a while.

For Chrome users:

  1. Open a new tab in Chrome
  2. Type this in the address bar: chrome://settings/clearBrowserData
  3. Press Enter
  4. Change the time range to "Last 4 weeks" or "All time"
  5. Make sure "Cached images and files" is checked
  6. Click "Clear data"
  7. Go back to Teams and sign in again

For other browsers:

  • Edge: Go to Settings > Privacy > Clear browsing data
  • Firefox: Go to History > Clear Recent History
  • Safari: Go to Safari menu > Clear History

You'll need to log back into Teams after clearing your browser data. This is normal.

Method 4: Fix Firefox Video Problems

Firefox needs a special plugin to show Teams presentations. Without it, you'll see everything except the actual slides.

Here's the fix:

  1. Open a new tab in Firefox
  2. Type about:addons in the address bar
  3. Press Enter
  4. Look for "OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems, Inc."
  5. If you see it's disabled, click the three dots next to it
  6. Choose "Always Activate"
  7. Refresh your Teams tab

This plugin handles all the video parts of Teams presentations. Most people don't know it exists, but it's crucial for Firefox users.

Method 5: Switch to a Better Browser

Some browsers just don't work well with Teams. I've tested them all, and here's what I found:

Best browsers for Teams:

  1. Chrome - Works great, rarely has problems
  2. Microsoft Edge - Made by Microsoft, so it works perfectly with Teams
  3. Firefox - Good after you enable the video codec

Browsers to avoid:

  • Safari on older versions
  • Internet Explorer (obviously)
  • Older versions of any browser

If you're using an old browser, that might be your whole problem. Update to the newest version or switch to Chrome.

When Nothing Works

Sometimes the problem isn't on your end. The person presenting might have issues with their setup. Or your company's internet might be blocking something.

If you've tried everything and still can't see presentations, contact your IT department. They can check if there are network blocks or security settings causing problems.

Prevention Tips

Keep these things in mind to avoid future problems:

  • Clear your browser cache once a month
  • Keep your browser updated
  • Don't use too many browser tabs when in Teams meetings
  • Close other programs that use lots of internet
  • Use a wired internet connection when possible

Most presentation problems happen because of old cached files or wrong login credentials. The methods above fix about 90% of the issues people have with Teams presentations.

Remember, technology problems are normal. Don't feel bad when they happen. Everyone deals with this stuff, and there's usually a simple fix.
