Is Google’s New Pixel 10 Pro Worth the Disappointing Price Hike?
Google has quietly started showing off its next big phone before the official announcement. The Pixel 10 Pro is coming, and here’s what you need to know.
The Design Looks Familiar
The new phone looks a lot like the Pixel 9. But there’s one big change. The camera section on the back now has three cameras instead of two. This includes a main camera, an ultra-wide camera, and a telephoto camera that can zoom in closer.
For the first time, even the basic Pixel 10 will have more than two cameras on the back. This is a big step up from older models.
What Colors Can You Choose?
The Pixel 10 Pro will come in four different colors:
- Obsidian – This is basically black
- Porcelain – A clean white color
- Moonstone – A soft blue-gray shade
- Jade – A light green color with gold touches
These colors look brighter and more interesting than the quiet colors of the Pixel 9. The Jade green option seems to be getting the most attention from early viewers.
The Camera Setup
The camera system includes:
- 50MP main camera – For regular photos
- 48MP ultra-wide camera – For taking wider shots and close-up macro photos
- 48MP telephoto camera – For zooming in on distant subjects
- 42MP front camera – For selfies
Both the ultra-wide and telephoto cameras can take macro photos, but they work at different distances.
What’s Inside
The Pixel 10 Pro will run on Google’s new Tensor G5 chip. This is a big deal because Google switched from Samsung to TSMC to make this chip. The new process should make the phone faster and use less battery power.
The phone will have 16GB of memory and come with different storage options: 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB. The battery is getting bigger too, which should help the phone last longer each day.
Android 16 Out of the Box
The Pixel 10 Pro will be one of the first phones to come with Android 16 already installed. Google will likely add some special features that only work on Pixel phones, probably including new AI tools powered by Gemini.
The Price Tag
Here’s where things get tough for buyers. The leaked prices show:
- Pixel 10 Pro (128GB): €1,099
- Pixel 10 Pro (256GB): €1,199
- Pixel 10 Pro (512GB): €1,329
- Pixel 10 Pro (1TB): €1,589
These prices are about €100 more than the previous generation. That’s a significant jump that might make some people think twice about upgrading.
When Can You Buy It?
Google has set the official launch date for August 20, 2025. The company will show off the entire Pixel 10 family at their “Made by Google” event. You’ll be able to watch the announcement live on YouTube starting at 1:00 PM ET.
Display and Build Quality
The Pixel 10 Pro features a 6.3-inch OLED display that can get extremely bright at 3,000 nits. The screen can change its refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz automatically to save battery when possible. The phone uses strong Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on both the front and back.
The Pixel 10 Pro brings some nice improvements like the third camera, better chip, and bigger battery. But the higher price might be hard to swallow, especially when the design looks so similar to last year’s model.
The real question is whether the new camera features and performance improvements are worth paying more money. We’ll know for sure when Google shows everything off on August 20th.
