Switch the TV screen resolution setting to 2160p - YUV420 in the video output settings

Solution

Switch the TV screen resolution setting to 2160p – YUV420 in the video output settings.

2160p – YUV420 allows PS4 Pro to connect to older 4K screens that lack the full HDMI 2.0 implementation. By reducing chroma information, the required bandwidth drops down in half, allowing HDMI 1.4 screens to get a full 60Hz signal. Additionally, PlayStation VR’s external processing box only seems to support HDMI 1.4, meaning that Pro functionality is limited to 2160p – YUV420 and HDR won’t work either.

Follow below steps to switch TV screen resolution setting to 2160p – YUV420.

  1. Go to Settings > Sound and Screen > Video Output Settings.
  2. Set the Resolution to 2160P – YUV420.
  3. Start a 4K compatible game or video streaming service.
  4. Select 4K in the game or service display/resolution menu. Refer to the product description in PlayStation Store or on the disc box to find out if it is 4K optimized.
