Microsoft Message

We’re updating the default mobility policy for Teams Phone Mobile (TPM) to align with customer feedback and improve calling reliability on SIM‑enabled smartphones. Starting in December, the default will shift from routing incoming calls to the Teams app to instead using the device’s cellular (native) dialer. Teams clients on other devices will continue to ring simultaneously.

When this will happen

Rollout will begin in December 2025 and complete by the end of the month.

How this affects your organization

Who is affected:

  • Organizations with Teams Phone Mobile (TPM) users.
  • Admins who have never customized their CsTeamsMobilityPolicy MobileDialerPreference setting.
  • End users relying on default mobility settings on SIM‑enabled TPM devices.

What will happen:

  • Default CsTeamsMobilityPolicy MobileDialerPreference will change from “Teams” to “Native.”
  • Incoming calls on SIM‑enabled TPM smartphones will ring the device’s native dialer unless admins previously configured custom settings.
  • All incoming calls will continue to ring any active Teams clients on all other devices.
  • User override behavior depends on whether the user has previously modified their call settings in the Teams mobile app.

What you can do to prepare

  • No action is required unless you want to maintain Teams as the default dialer.
  • Review and update CsTeamsMobilityPolicy if needed.
  • Communicate changes to helpdesk staff.
  • Refer users to Teams > Settings > Calling to manage their own dialer preference.
  • Consult Teams Phone Mobile call settings guidance on Microsoft Support.
