For the AYN Thor, these ghost images are stubborn. One owner tried using special tests to clear the screen, but the images did not go away completely. Anything white seems to get stuck on the screen almost instantly.

AYN’s Unusual Response

When one owner contacted AYN support, the company gave a strange explanation.

  • Support claimed the ghosting was not a defect.
  • They called it a “watermark” in their software.
  • They promised to remove this “watermark” in a future update.

This answer did not satisfy owners because the ghost image changes to match whatever was last on the screen, which is not how a watermark behaves.

This issue seems worse on the AYN Thor compared to other handhelds with similar OLED screens, like the Retroid Pocket 5. This suggests the Thor might use lower-quality screen panels. One possible reason is that some manufacturers use leftover screens from other products to keep costs down.
