How to fix unable to configure FortiLink ‘Failed to get FortiLink interface data’ error

This article describes an issue with a corrupt FortiLink interface. It is impossible to configure FortiLink and it shows the error ‘Failed to get FortiLink interface data’.

Solution

To resolve this issue, it is necessary to create a new FortiLink interface under hard-switch by going to Network > Interface > Create New > Type hardware Switch.

After that, it is necessary to enable FortiLink on that interface by running the following commands on CLI:

config sys interface
edit fortilink2
set fortilink enable
end

Once enabled, it will display a new FortiLink interface as the below screenshot shows it and that can be used for FortiSwitch:

Now, it should be possible to connect a new FortiSwitch using the new Fortilink2 interface.
