How to fix transceiver not certified by Fortinet

This article describes what is the impact of using a transceiver not certified by Fortinet.

Solution

Every single model of FortiGate contains a list of certified transceivers, non supported or certified transceivers can be used on FortiGate as well, but It is recommended to use the same transceiver’s model and same part number on the peer device.

There will be a warning message prompt from a graphical user interface (GUI) once plugging the non certified transceiver to Fortigate as shown in the screenshot below:

The impact of using a non-certified or supported transceiver:

  • Some of the health check commands will not show any output.
  • If the Fortinet Technical Assistance Center(TAC) finds an issue related to connectivity, it is mandatory to change back to a supported or certified transceiver.
