Is Edge Copilot Mode the Best Upgrade Yet for Effortless Browsing?
Step 1: Update Edge
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Click the three-dot button in the top-right corner.
- Select “Help & feedback,” then “About Microsoft Edge.”
- Check for updates; Edge needs to be version 138 or higher.
- Restart browser if an update installs.
Step 2: Open Copilot Mode Settings
- Click the three-dot menu again.
- Go to “Settings.”
- Find the “AI Innovations” or “New Tab Page” section.
Step 3: Turn On Copilot Mode
Locate Copilot Mode and switch it on.
Optionally, grant permissions for multi-tab access or voice commands to get personalized features.
Step 4: Get Started
Open a new tab to see the simplified Copilot interface.
Type or speak your first request in the Copilot input box—search, ask questions, or give commands.
Step 5: Control and Privacy
You can turn Copilot Mode off at any time in settings.
Copilot will only access open tabs or do voice actions if you give permission.
Your browsing data stays safe and private under Microsoft’s security standards.
What’s New and Different in Edge Copilot Mode
Unified Input Box
Chat, search, and navigation work from one simple field at the top of each new tab. No more switching tools—just type or say what you want Edge to do, and Copilot responds.
Multi-Tab Context Awareness
When you let it, Copilot sees all your open tabs. It can:
- Compare prices or features across shopping sites.
- Put snippets from different tabs into one summary.
- Spot contradictions or missing details between articles.
Delegating Tasks
Copilot can:
- Open, close, or pin tabs on voice or text command.
- Pull out important info like dates or quotes from a page.
- Cross-check details across websites.
- Draft emails or summaries using data from multiple tabs—all without leaving Edge.
Voice Mode
Speak your commands instead of typing. Say things like “Show my emails” or “Find news about puppies,” and Copilot jumps into action. This hands-free feature is especially helpful for busy or multitasking users.
Privacy by Design
You choose what Copilot can see. It never accesses open tabs, browsing history, or credentials unless you allow it. All features can be turned off anytime, keeping control with the user.
Features Planned or Coming Soon
Deeper AI Actions
Copilot will soon handle things like booking tickets, managing daily errands, or making recommendations, with permission.
Browsing History and Project Journeys
In future updates, Copilot can learn from your activity (if you want), organize tasks by project, and suggest next steps.
Personal and Business Account Differences
Personal accounts get full Copilot Mode. Business accounts still use the sidebar version (enterprise features and controls stay in place).
Why Edge Copilot Mode Makes Browsing Pleasant
- The browser feels easy, friendly, and less cluttered.
- Decisions get faster thanks to summary and comparison tools.
- No more losing track with many open tabs.
- Voice control takes away the need to click everywhere.
- You’re always in control of privacy and security.
Edge Copilot Mode transforms everyday browsing into a more helpful and satisfying experience, making it easier to research, compare, and get things done in fewer steps with less hassle.
