How To Fix Stream Deck Not Working Or Not Responding

Fix 1: Try A Force Restart

If your Stream Deck is powered on but unresponsive, you can force a restart by following these steps:

  • Normal Models: Hold the power button down for 4 seconds.
  • OLED Models: Hold the power button down for 7 seconds.

If the Stream Deck remains unresponsive after the initial restart attempt, follow these steps:

  • Normal Models: Hold the power button down for a full 10 seconds.
  • OLED Models: Hold the power button down for 16 seconds.

Fix 2: USB Compatibility Issue

Some users have reported that switching from USB 3.0 to USB 2.0 resolved the problem with the Stream Deck not responding.

  1. If your Stream Deck is currently connected to a USB 3.0 port, safely disconnect it from the port.
  2. Locate a USB 2.0 port on your computer.
  3. Plug the Stream Deck into the USB 2.0 port on your computer.

Fix 3: Restart Your Steam Deck

  1. Press the Steam button located below the left touchpad to open the Steam menu.
  2. Navigate to the Power section.
  3. Select the Restart option and confirm the action to restart your Steam Deck.

Fix 4: Update Steam Deck software

  1. Install any available system updates (Steam > Settings > System > Software Updates).
  2. Restart your Steam Deck (from the Software Updates section or via Steam > Power > Restart).

Fix 5: Reset The Steam Deck

Factory Reset

  1. Ensure your Steam Deck is on and in gaming mode, not Desktop mode.
  2. Access the menu by pressing the Steam button.
  3. Go to Settings, proceed to System.
  4. Within the Advanced menu, select Reset to Factory State.
  5. Confirm the action by clicking on Factory Reset.

Boot Menu Reset

  1. Ensure your Stream Deck is turned off by holding down the power button for 15 seconds.
  2. Press and hold the quick settings button, then press the power button to enter the boot menu.
  3. Select “Erase All User Data” using the D-pad and confirm the reset to erase all data and reset your Stream Deck
