You’re all set to dive into Dragon Age: The Veilguard, ready to experience the thrill on PC, but suddenly, your controller decides it’s taking a break. Feels like it’s mocking you, right? No worries; let’s walk through some steps that should get that controller back in action.
Table of Contents
Solution 1: Change Steam Settings
- Open Steam.
- Go to Settings, then find the Controller tab.
- There’s an option to Enable/Disable Steam Input for Xbox controllers—flip it one way, then the other.
- If it’s an Xbox controller, set it to Enabled. If it’s generic, follow the same toggle pattern with the Generic Controller option.
Solution 2: Disable and Enable Controller in Device Manager
- Go to your Windows Start Menu and type in “Device Manager.”
- Click it open, and scroll down to Human Interface Devices.
- Find HID-compliant game controller, then right-click on it.
- Choose Properties, click the Driver tab, and hit Disable.
- You’ll get a warning—don’t panic. Click Yes, then go right back and click Enable. Now, see if the controller’s responsive.
Solution 3: Update Driver
- If the controller still isn’t having it, let’s update.
- Back in Device Manager.
- Right-click the HID-compliant game controller again and select Update Driver.
- Choose Browse my computer for driver software.
- Pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
- Select your HID-compliant game controller, press Next, and let it install.
- Give your computer a restart to lock in the changes.
Sometimes, it’s the simplest fixes that do the trick. After rebooting, plug in your controller and test it out in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
