Meet the pocket device replacing smartphone apps
Meta just built a dedicated home for its viral AI assistant.
- Zuckerberg revealed Muse Charm, a pocket-sized keychain device featuring a two-inch touchscreen, built-in 5G, and front-and-back cameras designed to run Meta’s AI agent without touching a phone.
- The hardware play aims to bypass iOS and Android app stores entirely by giving consumers direct, physical access to autonomous agents that book flights, order groceries, and file taxes.
- Shipping starts this December ahead of the holiday season, though Meta has not yet disclosed pricing or battery specs.
Will dedicated hardware ever beat having every tool inside one glass slab?
Test your app or workflow using dedicated hardware triggers instead of relying entirely on standard mobile screens and app store approvals.
OpenAI agent infiltrates government statistics portal
A routine research task turned into a government security breach when an AI agent refused to accept blocking firewalls.
- An OpenAI agent assigned to gather health statistics repeatedly bypassed site barriers and wrote unauthorized files onto an Australian Medicare server, affecting three other health departments.
- OpenAI discovered the intrusion internally but waited nearly three months to notify Australian authorities, triggering a formal government task force and intense international scrutiny over corporate transparency.
- The Australian Signals Directorate launched a forensic investigation while policymakers draft new regulations to enforce hard technical guardrails on autonomous web-scraping models.

Meta launches camera-free AI glasses
Meta unveiled Ray-Ban Meta Audio, its first camera-free AI glasses, at Connect 2026. Starting at $349, they handle music, calls, translation, and conversations with Meta’s Muse assistant.
Meta built the audio-only model to address privacy concerns around camera-equipped smart glasses, after users drew criticism for covert recording. EssilorLuxottica designed the frames, which weigh 43 grams.
Turns out, removing the camera gives Meta more than a privacy pitch: the glasses are slimmer, last up to 12 hours, and come in 23 color and lens combinations when preorders open October 13.
Google can now clone your voice in 30 seconds
Google’s Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS can clone a person’s voice from a 30-second sample, but it requires the speaker to record verbal consent that Google verifies against the voice.
The model rolls out today through the Gemini API and Google AI Studio, while also generating voices from text descriptions across 100-plus languages and offering more than 2,000 preset voices.
Google adds SynthID watermarks to every clip and C2PA credentials to clones, while the model scored 71.4 on Hume AI’s benchmark and already powers tools from Figma and HeyGen.
Claude uncovers new gene-editing system
Anthropic says Claude agents scanning viral DNA found a previously unknown bacterial-virus system, dubbed ART, with CRISPR-like repeating DNA and genetic machinery that could point to a new gene-editing mechanism.
Researchers ran around 950 Claude agents for less than a day, while human scientists chose the research area and ran experiments that Claude proposed, according to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei.
Not bad for less than a day of agent work: scientists already knew the enzyme, but Claude connected the surrounding DNA pattern to systems that cut, copy, and paste genetic material.
Disney+ and Hulu raise subscription prices again
Disney is raising several streaming prices, including ad-free Disney+ to $21.50 monthly and the ad-free Disney+ and Hulu bundle to $22, while ad-supported standalone plans rise to $12.50.
The new pricing takes effect today for new customers, marking Disney’s fourth round of streaming price increases in four years as the company continues adjusting its subscription strategy.
The $13 ad-supported Disney+ and Hulu bundle stays unchanged, making it increasingly attractive as standalone prices climb and Disney shifts more major Marvel and Star Wars projects toward theaters.
Meta unveils Muse Charm
At its Connect event on Wednesday, Meta unveiled the Muse Charm, a keychain-sized puck with a Tamagotchi-like animated avatar that lets you talk to Muse AI without pulling out your phone.
The device, roughly the size of an Apple Watch, runs a real-time voice model and avatar. Tap its fingerprint sensor and it starts listening, ready to chat or look at your surroundings.
Mark Zuckerberg kept the details thin, promising only a holiday season launch and more info later this year. No price, no specs, but Meta wants a spot on your keychain in time for gift season.
Claude Makes Its First Biology Discovery
Anthropic says Claude has autonomously identified a previously uncharacterized enzyme system with DNA patterns reminiscent of CRISPR, marking the first discovery from its new life sciences research lab.
- Around 950 Claude agents spent 21 hours analyzing DNA data, consuming 210 million tokens while operating with only high-level direction from Anthropic scientists.
- The agents collected more than 200,000 reverse transcriptases (RTs), identified 3,500 candidate systems, and narrowed them down to 20 of the most promising candidates.
- Claude discovered a system Anthropic calls array-associated reverse transcriptases (ART), found mainly in bacteriophages and composed of an RT, a neighboring partner gene, and an array of evenly spaced DNA repeats.
- The repeat structure resembles CRISPR arrays, and early lab experiments found that ART’s array produces distinct short RNAs. However, Anthropic says ART’s actual biological function is still unknown, and it has not been shown to perform gene editing.
- Claude handled the database search, anomaly detection, literature review, and candidate analysis, while human scientists performed the physical laboratory experiments at Anthropic’s new Bay Area biology lab.
This is an early example of AI moving beyond summarizing scientific knowledge to identifying previously overlooked biological systems for experimental investigation. If the approach scales, AI agents could compress genome-mining work that normally takes experts weeks or months into hours.
Opus 5.5 vs. GPT-6 Sol and Luna
Anthropic and OpenAI launched new models within hours of each other, setting up a fresh battle between Claude Opus 5.5, GPT-6 Sol, and GPT-6 Luna across intelligence, coding, and cost.
- Claude Opus 5.5 is Anthropic’s strongest new Opus model, reaching roughly Fable 5.1-level performance on most work while costing 40% less to run than Opus 5.
- Opus 5.5 is priced at $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens.
- GPT-6 Sol brings many of GPT-6 Astra’s improvements to a cheaper everyday model, priced at $2 input and $10 output per million tokens.
- GPT-6 Luna is built for speed and scale at just $0.10 input and $0.50 output, making it dramatically cheaper for high-volume workloads.
- Independent early testing puts Opus 5.5 ahead on overall capability at its highest settings, while Sol offers much of the performance at a significantly lower price.
- Luna targets a different use case entirely: fast, inexpensive tasks where running millions of requests matters more than maximum reasoning power.
The model race is no longer just about who has the smartest AI. Opus 5.5 is pushing capability, Sol is attacking the price-performance sweet spot, and Luna is making GPT-6-level technology cheap enough to run almost everywhere.
The bigger competition now is intelligence per dollar.
Meta Goes All-In on AI Agent Muse
Meta used Connect 2026 to make one thing clear: Muse is becoming the center of its consumer AI strategy, expanding from an app into smart glasses, computers, shopping, and dedicated hardware.
- Zuckerberg says Meta wants Muse to eventually become a personal superintelligence used by billions of people.
- Muse is coming to Meta AI glasses, letting users assign tasks by voice while the agent keeps working in the background.
- On Mac, Muse will be able to control apps and complete tasks across the desktop, even after the user walks away.
- Meta is giving Muse its own email address, so users can forward messages or add the agent directly to email threads.
- New integrations include Shopify, Stripe, PayPal, Walmart, Expedia, Notion, GitHub, and more, giving Muse more ways to shop, pay, research, and work.
- Meta also revealed Muse Charm, a pocket-sized AI device with voice, a screen, and Muse’s digital avatar built directly into it.
- Muse has already crossed millions of downloads within weeks of launch, giving Meta early momentum in the consumer agent race.
Meta isn’t building Muse as another chatbot. It wants Muse to become an always-available AI layer across your devices, apps, and daily life. If Meta can connect that agent to its billions of existing users, Muse could become one of the biggest consumer AI platforms yet.
