AI News Update: Can You Run Meta’s 816B Parameter AI Model Locally on Mac Studio? and more

Meta Launches an Open-Weight AI Model Built to Run on Macs

Meta has released Muse Spark Open, “the most capable US open-weight model to date,” designed to run locally on Apple computers.

  • Muse Spark Open has 816 billion parameters and a 1 million-token context window.
  • On benchmarks, the model shows competitive performance against other popular open-weight models, such as Qwen 3.8, GLM 5.3, and Kimi K3.
  • The model is natively multimodal and built for complex coding tasks and agentic labor. Although it is designed to run locally on Apple’s computers, doing so requires a lot of power (at least 1 terabyte of RAM).
  • Meta says Muse Spark Open is optimized to run on the Mac Studio powered by M5 Ultra.
  • It is available now through Hugging Face.

Apple and Meta joining forces is unexpected, given the long history of clashes between the two companies over privacy and the future of computing. Meta AI chief Alexandr Wang said they are “excited for mommy and daddy to be playing nice again,” and explained that the two companies have been working together for several months. Wang also left the door open for future collaborations, saying the two companies will team up wherever it “makes sense.”

Amazon’s Bee Launches Two Personal AI Devices Starting at $75

Bee, the AI wearable company acquired by Amazon last year, has introduced two new devices designed to record everyday conversations and turn them into summaries, reminders and actionable tasks.

  • The $74.99 Bee Frontier can be worn on the wrist or pinned to clothing, while the $99.99 Bee Eclipse is a credit card sized device that attaches magnetically to the back of a smartphone.
  • Both devices use AI to capture important details from conversations, create summaries and generate tasks. They can help users remember plans, take lecture notes or organize follow up actions after appointments.
  • The free service includes conversation summaries and 14 days of memory. A $11.99 monthly Bee Pro subscription adds unlimited summaries, suggested to dos, daily memories, a personal chat assistant and integrations with Amazon, Alexa+ and third party apps.
  • Bee integrates with Gmail, Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook to help draft emails, schedule meetings and identify action items. Users can also connect Alexa or upload photos and link Apple HealthKit data for additional context.

The Bee Frontier is available now on Amazon, while the Bee Eclipse is expected to follow soon. The launch puts Bee in competition with AI note taking devices such as Plaud or Pocket, with a lower starting price and deeper integration into Amazon’s ecosystem.

ChatGPT Can Now Use Your Chrome Tabs to Get Things Done for You

ChatGPT’s Google Chrome extension just got an upgrade that allows it to use the browser tabs you already have open.

  • Install the ChatGPT Chrome extension and follow the setup instructions.
  • Open the tabs you want ChatGPT to work with in Chrome.
  • Open ChatGPT in the web or desktop app and tag Chrome in your prompt so it can use information from your open tabs.

OpenAI shared some sample queries you can try:

  • “Fill out the form I have open in @chrome ahead of seeing my new dentist. Also, can you add the appointment to my work and personal calendar.”
  • “@chrome Compare the three couches I have open by dimensions, material, delivery time, and return policy.”
  • “@chrome Put the vendors in these tabs into my comparison sheet, with pricing, key features, and source links.”
  • “@chrome Look at all the tabs I have open and compare the contractor services. Then draft an email to the one that fits my home renovation.”

OpenAI has also updated ChatGPT in the sidebar, giving you “the full power of ChatGPT” and your entire conversation history in Chat or Work without leaving the page you’re viewing. Additionally, it now lets ChatGPT Work “control” your Chrome tabs for tasks like “sending messages, filling out forms, or downloading files.”

Deezer will let users filter AI generated music from search results

The streaming platform is developing a toggle that will hide AI-generated tracks, albums, and related artists from search results, with the feature expected to launch before the end of 2026.

YouTube Music adds labels to identify AI generated songs

YouTube Music is rolling out labels that show whether AI was used to create a song’s composition or vocals, with additional details available by clicking the label. The system distinguishes fully AI generated tracks from music made partly with AI, focusing on transparency rather than restricting monetization.

OpenAI pledges $5 million to help mathematicians assess AI research

The company is donating $5 million to the Simons Foundation as part of a $15 million initiative with Anthropic to help mathematicians evaluate and build on AI generated research. They also pledge to provide access to their models and computing resources to Simons Foundation-supported researchers.

Apate deploys AI agents to trick scammers and gather fraud intelligence

Australian startup Apate uses thousands of AI agents posing as potential victims to engage scammers across calls, messages, emails and social media, collecting details such as bank accounts, crypto wallets and malicious websites. The company says its agents have wasted 17 years of scammers’ time across 2.5 million conversations, helping banks, telecom companies and government agencies strengthen fraud prevention.

Elon Musk just unveiled a Tesla Roadster that can FLY!

Elon Musk finally unveiled Tesla’s long-awaited Roadster 2, and the prototype didn’t just drive fast. It briefly flew through the air using SpaceX-inspired thrusters.

  • During the live demo in Texas, the Roadster drove up a curved ramp, went upside down, launched into the air, flipped, and landed safely.
  • Tesla says the car uses a powerful suction system underneath plus high-pressure thrusters inspired by SpaceX technology.
  • Another demonstration showed the Roadster jumping over a row of Tesla vehicles, while Musk said it can perform rolls and other aerial moves.
  • Tesla demonstrated 0–60 mph in under one second, while the Rocket version is listed with a top speed above 230 mph and more than 300 miles of range.
  • The Roadster is still a prototype, with production targeted for 2028. The full-flight Rocket version is expected to be limited and may face restrictions on public roads.

Tesla has been promising the new Roadster for nearly a decade, but this demo finally showed what Musk meant by combining a Tesla with SpaceX technology.

It isn’t a traditional flying car capable of long-distance flight yet, but a production car that can briefly leave the ground, flip, and accelerate to 60 mph in under a second would still be unlike anything Tesla has sold before.

Meta Turns Macs Into AI Supercomputers

Meta and Apple have teamed up to bring a massive frontier-class AI model directly to the desktop, letting developers run powerful AI locally instead of relying entirely on cloud data centers.

  • Meta launched Muse Spark Open, an open-weight model with 816B total parameters, 42B active parameters, and a 1M-token context window, built for coding, reasoning, and AI agents.
  • The full model can run locally across just two M5 Ultra Mac Studios, each equipped with up to 512GB of unified memory.
  • Together, the two Macs provide 1TB of unified memory, effectively behaving like one desktop AI supercomputer capable of holding the entire model.
  • Meta worked directly with Apple to optimize Muse Spark Open for Apple Silicon and the MLX framework, marking a rare collaboration between the longtime rivals.
  • Meta tested the setup on real agentic work, including shipping changes to an iOS app and controlling DaVinci Resolve to analyze and edit video entirely on-device.

Frontier-level AI has traditionally required racks of expensive GPUs in massive data centers.

Now, models with hundreds of billions of parameters are becoming powerful enough and efficient enough to run locally from a developer’s desk, which could make advanced private AI much more accessible.

OpenAI Accuses Apple of Taking AI Secrets

The fight between Apple and OpenAI just escalated. OpenAI says a former employee took more than 100 confidential files about an unreleased device before leaving for Apple.

  • OpenAI alleges the employee transferred 100+ confidential files to personal accounts on his final day, including information about at least one unreleased OpenAI device.
  • The files reportedly contained sensitive engineering, hardware, manufacturing, and supplier information.
  • OpenAI says the former employee later returned to Apple and presented information about the device to senior Apple executives.
  • Apple denies the allegations, saying its investigation found no evidence that OpenAI’s confidential information entered its systems.
  • The accusation comes inside an existing legal fight that Apple started in July, when it sued OpenAI and former Apple employees over claims that Apple trade secrets were taken to OpenAI.

Apple and OpenAI are no longer just competing in AI software. Both are moving deeper into AI-powered hardware, making confidential product designs and engineering talent increasingly valuable.

The dispute could offer an unusual look at what both companies are secretly building next.
