Tradewind Traders is planning to migrate some of their data and resources to Azure cloud services, Management has asked you to design a deployment plan that will guarantee services running on virtual machines will continue to operate in the event a single datacenter fails. Availability zones expand the level of control you have to maintain the availability of the applications and data on your VMs. An Availability Zone is a physically separate zone, within an Azure region. Each Availability Zone has a distinct power source, network, and cooling.

By deploying virtual machines to two or more availability zones, Tradewind Traders can ensure that their services will continue to operate even if one datacenter fails due to power outages, network failures, or natural disasters. Availability zones are physically separate locations within an Azure region that have independent power, cooling, and networking infrastructure. Each availability zone is connected by a high-performance network with a round-trip latency of less than 2ms. Azure services can be deployed as zonal resources, which are pinned to a specific availability zone, or as zone-redundant resources, which are spread across multiple availability zones. For virtual machines, Azure offers a 99.99% uptime SLA when two or more instances are deployed across two or more availability zones in the same region.
