Starting from 1 October 2022 onward, Microsoft will start to switch off basic authentication on Microsoft 365 tenants, all devices that have Outlook accounts setup using basic authentication protocol and using Exchange Active Sync (EAS) will stop receiving email.
This change is to provide more secure authentication methods to end users that use personal email or work email on the mobile devices. Users that have not used Modern Authentication will be prompted on the first login attempt to setup multi-factor authentication which require an additional application on your device.
This article will outline the steps to reconfigure the iPhone/iPad to transition from basic auth to modern auth connectivity on iOS.

Remove email account from iOS
Step 1: Launch the Settings App in iOS.
Step 2: Scroll down in the list of Settings to locate the Mail option, tap on it to open the settings for Mail.
Step 3: Tap on the Accounts option to display the list of email account.
Step 4: Tap on the account you want to remove.
Step 5: Scroll down to the bottom to locate the option to remove the account. Click on it and follow the on-screen instruction to remove the selected email account.
Launch the App Store
Step 6: Tap on the App Store icon to launch the App Store on the iOS device.
Search for the Microsoft Authenticator App
Step 7: Tap on the Search button located at the bottom right corner to search for an application.
Step 8: Type in Microsoft Authenticator, a list of suggestions will show in the window.
Install the Microsoft Authenticator App
Step 9: Tap on the GET button to install the Microsoft Authenticator App.
Step 10: Once the installation completed, Microsoft Authenticator App will show on one of the pages with all other Apps or it will show on a new page.
Search for the Microsoft Outlook App
Step 11: Tap on the App Store icon to launch the App Store on the iOS device again.
Step 12: Tap on the Search button located at the bottom right corner to search for an application.
Step 13: Type in Microsoft Outlook, a list of suggestions will show in the window.
Install the Microsoft Outlook App
Step 14: Tap on the GET button to install the Microsoft Outlook App.
Step 15: Once the installation completed, Microsoft Outlook App will show on one of the pages with all other Apps or it will show on a new page.
Setup email account or add an additional account in Microsoft Outlook App
Step 16: Tap on the Microsoft Outlook Icon to launch the app.
Step 17: For the first launch, it will let you to add email account. Tap on the Add Account option once you have entered in the email address and follow the prompts to have the account setup.
Step 18: Alternatively, you can add additional email account by tapping on the Home icon.
Step 19: Tap on the Office 365 Logo with a + button.
Step 20: Tap the Skip button to proceed.
Step 21: Enter your email address.
Step 22: Tap on the Add Account option once you have entered in the email address and follow the prompts to have the account setup.
Step 23: With Multi-Factor, you will be prompted to approve the account on your Microsoft Authenticator App.
Step 24: Once you are finished, the Microsoft Outlook App will start downloading your email.
