Firefox, like some other web browsers, lacks native settings for customizing keyboard shortcuts. While AutoControl isn’t available for Firefox, you can still personalize your hotkeys using the Shortkeys add-on (compatible with Chrome, Opera, and Edge as well). Follow these steps to install and customize hotkeys in Firefox:
- Click “Add to Firefox” on the Shortkeys download page linked: Shortkeys for Firefox (Free)
- Press the Extensions button in Firefox, locate the Cog icon next to the Shortkeys add-on, and select “Manage Extension.” Click the three-dot ellipses button and choose “Options” to open the Shortkeys Options tab.
- Press the “Add shortcut” button. Click inside the Shortcut box, assign a hotkey, and choose an action from the Behavior drop-down menu. Save your shortcuts.
- Access the Add-ons Manager tab in Firefox, press the “Tools for add-ons” button, and select “Manage Extension Shortcuts.” Click “Show 51 more” for the Shortkeys add-on.
- In the Type a shortcut boxes, customize hotkeys for various actions available on the extension’s Behavior drop-down menu.
Now you can enjoy a personalized keyboard experience in Firefox with your custom hotkeys using the Shortkeys add-on.
