The FBI has reported that a “high rate” of teenage boys are committing suicide after being the targets of sextortion attempts, with some victims taking their lives sometimes within hours of receiving the sextortion message. Even worse, the FBI also reported that in some cases, criminals contacted families and requested payment, threatening to release the deceased’s nudes online.
