AI content creation — is it real? With the rise of automation, it was always reassuring to know that certain tasks — like writing — couldn’t be done by a computer. Well, that looks like it might change — and soon. Still in infancy, GPT-3 is an AI platform that scrapes digital content to create copy that’s difficult to distinguish from a real human. Sure, it’s not Hemingway, but it can handle simple product descriptions.
Is it that realistic? Fortunately, it doesn’t look like writers are going to be replaced anytime soon. While some of the generated copy is impressive, it still makes mindless statements lacking any common sense. It’s yet to demonstrate true intelligence. GPT-3 also seems to be prone to some of the same prejudices and biases found in previous AI language platforms.
The unfulfilled dream of AI. GPT-3 may not be perfect… yet, but it’s certainly showing more promise than previous attempts at game-changing AI. Remember these AI fails? IBM’s Watson for Oncology was cancelled for unsafe treatment recommendations and Apple’s Face ID was tricked by a 3D mask. It all looks to be part of the learning curve but it does get us wondering, will AI ever deliver on the hype?
